The Evaluation Process

All prospective Kansas City Blazer athletes must participate in a new swimmer evaluation before registering.  This evaluation process allows our coaching staff to place swimmers in the appropriate practice group based upon their current skill and for their long-term development and success.

Each evaluation typically will include the athlete swimming one lap of each of the four competitive strokes of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly along with demonstrating their current understanding of starts and flip turns. For advanced swimmers, we may ask the swimmer to swim a little more. After a group evaluation and recommendation by our coaching staff, swimmers will be able to register for the appropriate Blazer program.  Most evaluations take approximately 30 minutes.

Upcoming evaluations are listed below.  Please allow for 10 minutes to check in and prepare your swimmers before the start of the evaluation.  Swimmers should come prepared with a swimsuit and a pair of goggles.

Please contact Coach Mary-Catherine Ivey with questions.

Once placed, most frequently asked questions regarding the team are addressed in the Parent Handbook.
