Coaching Staff

Brian Reynolds, Head Coach of the Drury Men's and Women's Lady Panther's National Championship Division II Teams

Coach Reynolds is one of the most accomplished coaches in collegiate swimming & diving, he is entering his 39th year as the head coach at Drury for the Panthers men’s team and the 34th season leading the women’s program.  Coach Reynolds has been at the helm for 33 national championships at Drury, having led the men’s team to win eight NAIA national titles, 12 NCAA-II crowns, three women’s NAIA national championships, and 10 NCAA-II women’s national titles.


Blair Bish, Senior Group Coach

Blair has been a senior level coach at Parkway Swim Club in St. Louis. He was a scholarship athlete at both University of Arizona and Missouri State University. Blair's swimming accomplishments include being a 7 time NCAA All-American Honorable Mention, 4 time NCAA Championship Qualifier, 2018 & 2019 Mid-American Conference Champion, 2016 Olympic Trials Qualifier, 2014 Junior National Champion, record holder in the 100 breaststroke and 13 time Arkansas Swimmer of the Year. 


Doug Schranck, Senior Group Coach 


Doug has been coaching with Springfield Aquatics since the Summer of 2015 working primarily with the Senior Group. Doug is also an Assistant Coach for Drury University. He grew up swimming in Alton, IL and swam at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin where he was an NCAA qualifier and school record holder in the 100 and 200 Butterfly. Doug originally worked for Edward Jones Investments after graduating with a degree in Finance. He did club coaching a few hours per week and knew that coaching was what he really wanted to do and became a Graduate Assistant at Arizona State University in 2014-2015 before coming to coach for Drury University and Springfield Aquatics.  Doug is 1 of 9 kids in his family. Four of his family members were college swimmers and 7 of them were college athletes. He is also a big fan of gymnastics and enjoys following that sport closely in addition to swimming.


Angie Kearbey, Senior &  Age Group Coach


Angie swam growing up and has loved every part of swimming.  When she was 16 she coached a local summer team and fell in love with an entirely differenct piece of the sport and she hasn't looked back since.  Angie moved to Springfield and began working with SPA in 2010 and has coached all levels during her time with SPA. She enjoys working with each practice group for different reasons.  Her favorite strokes to teach are the butterfly and breaststroke. There are a very few things she loves more than a good IM set.


Chris Kohler, Gold Coach


Chris grew up swimming in Houston, TX and swam for Drury University from 2008-2012.  He was a member of the DII National Championship team all 4 years and a NCAA All-American 2009, 2010, and 2012.  He swam the 50, 100, 200, and 500 freestyle.  He has a degree in mathematics and is coaching his 9th year as part of USA Swimming.  Chris is married to Hannah Kohler, Drury University Alum,  they have an infant daughter named Harper.  


Zach Mertens, Silver Coach


Zach started swimming when he was 14 at Rock Bridge High School and Columbia Swim Club. He swam collegiantly for the University of North Dakota and Quachita Baptist University, swimming the breaststroke and IM.  After graduating in 2014, he began coaching for the Columbia Swim Club as an age group coach and for Columbia Public Schools as an assistant high school coach.  Zach was promoted to the Head High School Coach  for the Columbia Public Schools for the 2016-2017 school year.  In 2017, he moved to Springfield as a Graduate Assistant for Drury University Swimming and Diving and became an age group coach for SPA while completing a Masters Degree in Communications with an emphasis in Organizational Leadership and Change.  Zach loves to play chess.


Tanner Reynolds, Silver Coach


Tanner grew up swimming for SPA from a very young age. He is a graduate of Glendale High School in Springfield. He swam distance fresstyle at Drury and started coaching with SPA in the Bronze and Silvers groups after his time at Drury.  Tanner has beaten Magnus Carlson in chess.


Sarah Hallgren, Bronze Coach

Sara is originally from Omaha, NE where she swam for Swim Omaha and later graduated from the Univeristy of Nebraska-Omaha as a 3 time naitonal qualifier.  She has coached USA Swimming in St Louis as part of the Rockwood Swim Club as well as for MSA in Springfield, Missouri.  Sara was the swim lesson supervisor and Masters Coach for Rockwood Swim Club and an age group coach for MSA.  She teaches Elementary Science at Greenwood School in Springfield.


Lilly Doss, Bronze Coach

Lilly swam for SPA for 9 years from beginning in prep at the age of 9 thru her senior year of high school.  She enjoys every minute of coaching the Bronze practice group.  Lilly loves any and all things swimming and coffee, and other than corkscrew, freestyle is her favorite stroke by far.
