Coaching Staff
Nicholas Baker Head Coach

Nick began his swimming career with the Millard Aquatic Club and swam at Millard South High School.  As a swimmer Nick was a medalist at the Metro Conference Swim Meet as well as the Nebraska State Swim Meet. After high school, Nick attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he helped start the UNL Swim Club.  During college, Nick coached with the Greater Nebraska Swim Team in Lincoln, as well as assisted with Lincoln Northeast High School for two seasons.  Nick began coaching with Sarpy County Swim Club in 2011 and became the head coach of the club in 2015.  Nick primarily coaches the Senior level groups.  Additionally, Nick is a teacher at Papillion-La Vista High School and the head swim coach of Papillion-La Vista/Papillion-La Vista South's men's and women's swim teams, a role he took on in 2013 after assisting for two years.

Julie Barr Assistant Coach- National Group

Julie was a competitve swimmer growing up in Ohio. During her age group career she competed at Junior Nationals, Senior Nationals, and the US Open. She swam collegiately for Southern Illinois University, where she qualified for the NCAA Championship meet and finaled in the 100 butterfly. Julie has coached with SCSC in various capacities and is currently a volunteer coach with the National Group. Julie was the Midwestern Swimming Age Group Coach of the Year for 2016-17. She has coached at numerous All Star and Zone Championship meets for Midwestern Swimming.

JB Barr Assistant Coach- National Group

JB grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska swimming for Nebraska Aquatics and Lincoln Southeast high school. A successful club and high school career included top 8 finishes at Junior Nationals and multiple high school state championship swims. He formerly held the Nebraska State Meet record in the 100 backstroke. JB went on to compete for Stanford University, contributing to multiple Pac-10 team championships and swimming on a Pac-10 champion 800 free relay. He has been involved in Sarpy County Swim Club for nearly 10 years as team entry chair and as a USA Swimming certified stroke & turn official and starter. JB began volunteer coaching for the team in 2015 and is currently coaching the National group with Julie Barr.

Miles Ritchie Assistant Coach- Seniors

Miles has been a swim instructor, lifeguard, and aquatics director at a summer camp. He was a state qualifying swimmer in high school for three years at Millard North, and also swam for the UNL Club team. Miles spent a year as an assistant for the Grand Island swim team. Currently, he is an assistant coach for the Papillion La Vista Swim team as well as Sarpy County Swim Club.  Miles teaches science at Papillion-La Vista South High School.

Jeff Daniels Assistant Coach- Juniors & Seawolves

Jeff joined the team in October 1997.  He teaching K-8 Physical Education at St. Bernadette School in Omaha from July 1997-January 2012. He has been subbing in bellevue, Ops, and the archdioses since then. He would like a full time Job if one comes around. He has always loved swimming, and was a very good swimmer. He was never able to participate in a competitive setting.

Eric Rees Assistant Coach- Juniors & Seawolves

Eric was a competitive swimmer gorwing up for local clubs and Papillion-La Vista High School.  He swam for the University of South Dakota after graduating from high school.  He began coaching for Monarch Swim Club (now Sarpy County Swim Club) in 1995 and coached until 2009, when he took time off to be with his family.  He was also an assistant coach for 16 seasons (1995-2010) with Papillion La-Vista High School.  Eric returned to coaching SCSC in 2016.

Barbara Anderson Assistant Coach- Seawolves

Barb joins SCSC as one of our Developmental and Competitive coaches.  She swam competitively as a child and attended Kearney State on a full swimming scholarship.  Barb comes to us with a vast variety of swimming experiences.  She has taught swim lessons for 19 years; coached the Offutt Swim Team (1972-1979) and Ralston USAA Swimming (1973-1979) and in San Antonio, Texas (1983-1995).  Through her previous position as the Aquatics Director at Prairie Life Center in Ralston she has rediscovered her love for competitive swimming herself and is now a United States Masters Swimmer (USMS).

Lynn Kurutz Assistant Coach- Seawolves

Lynn coaches primarily the Competitive 1 and 2 groups. She joined Sarpy County Swim Club in 2015 after coaching and teaching many young swimmers over the years. She has been at Prairie Life Center on 84th and Q for many years, and is the Director of the Aquatics Department.

Jeffrey Cavanaugh Assistant Coach

Jeff graduated from Truman State University in 2018 where he swam four years and was a team captain. Jeff currently works as an economist and is taking classes at Creighton University. Jeff enjoys coaching because the values learned in swimming can be applied to every aspect of life.
