WOW Wraps Short Course Season With ECSL Championship Win!

David Sokolofsky

Congratulations on an outstanding meet to finish out the short course season. It was a tight battle with ECA throughout the entire weekend, but we ended up pulling out the victory by a razor thin margin of 22.5 points. With each team scoring over 6,000 points, for the team title to come down to 22.5 is about as close as we'll ever see this meet. Team scores attached.

This meet was the epitome of a team effort with every point being critical and us needing every swimmer to step it up. Well, the swimmers did just that during every session of the meet. The kids swam out of their minds across all age groups with best times coming in by the bucket, and team records falling at a breakneck pace (15 in total with more on that to come in a later email).

Sunday's finals session was a different degree of special though with our swimmers putting up some truly gutsy performances to bring the team title back to Wilmington for the first time since 2014. The energy was electric and we had several down to the wire finishes that our swimmers kept getting their hands to the wall first on. McKaley Goldblum holding off three ECA girls in the 100 free super final. Finn Howard torching the boys 100 free super final and upsetting the top seed from ECA. Jackson Hughes’s monster comeback in the last 25 of the 11-12 boys 100 IM against two ECA kids that were out in front. And then our Senior boys relay cementing the team victory with a 10 second thumping of ECA in the last event of the meet. Tough stuff indeed, Team.

Congratulations to all our WOW swimmers on a fantastic meet and a tremendous 2018-19 short course season!
