2022-2023 New Swimmer Assessments   

Are you looking for an activity where you can learn healthy exercise habits, meet new friends, and have a lot of fun? Do you want to be a part of a winning team with a rich tradition of developing well rounded, highly successful athletes? If so, the Waves of Wilmington swim team is the place for you!

**Make up assessment day: Monday, August 8 at 6:00 PM at the David B. Allen Natatorium on the campus of UNCW.**

New swimmer assessments for the 2022-23 WOW swim season will be held Monday, July 25 from 6:15-7:15 PM at UNCW. If you have any questions, please contact Head Coach David Sokolofsky at [email protected] The WOW coaching staff looks forward to seeing you soon!

WOW Practice Group Prerequisites

 

Explorer 1 (ages 6-10)

  • 25 yards continuous freestyle
  • 25 yards continuous backstroke

Explorer 2 (ages 7-10)

  • 50 yards continuous, legal freestyle and backstroke with a flip turn
  • 25 yards continuous, legal butterfly and breaststroke
  • Racing dive off the starting block

Age Group 1 (ages 9-10)

Able to legally complete USA Swimming’s 9-10 IMR, which consists of the following:

  • 100 yards freestyle (with flip turns)
  • 50 yards butterfly, backstroke (with flip turn), and breaststroke
  • 100 yards IM

Age Group 2 (ages 11-13)

Able to legally complete USA Swimming’s 11-12 IMR, which consists of the following:

  • 200 yards freestyle (with flip turns)
  • 50 yards butterfly, backstroke (with flip turn), and breaststroke
  • 100 yards IM

Age Group 3 (ages 11-12)

Able to legally complete USA Swimming’s 11-12 IMX, which consists of the following:

  • 500 yards freestyle (with flip turns)
  • 100 yards butterfly, backstroke (with flip turns), and breaststroke
  • 200 yards IM

            +

  • Priority 1: NCS 11-12 AG Champ cuts
  • Priority 2: Had NCS 10u Champ cuts as 10 year old
  • Priority 3: Coach's decision

Age Group 4 (ages 13-14)

Able to legally complete USA Swimming’s 13+ IMX, which consists of the following:

  • 500 yards freestyle 
  • 200 yards butterfly, backstroke, and breaststroke
  • 400 yards IM

            +

  • 70% sustained practice attendance

            +

  • Priority 1: NCS 13-14 AG Champ cuts
  • Priority 2: Had NCS 11-12 AG Champ cuts as 11-12 year old
  • Priority 3: Coach's decision

 

Senior 1 (ages 14+)

Able to legally complete USA Swimming’s 13+ IMR, which consists of the following:

  • 200 yards freestyle (with flip turns)
  • 100 yards butterfly, backstroke (with flip turns), and breaststroke
  • 200 yards IM

Senior 2 (ages 15+)

Able to legally complete USA Swimming’s 13+ IMX, which consists of the following:

  • 500 yards freestyle 
  • 200 yards butterfly, backstroke, and breaststroke
  • 400 yards IM

  • 70% sustained practice attendance

  • Priority 1: NCS Senior Champ Cuts
  • Priority 2: Had NCS 13-14 AG Champ cuts as 13-14 year old
  • Priority 3: Coach's decision

 

Senior 3 (ages 15+)

Coach’s invitation only

  • Senior Sectional cuts
  • 85% sustained practice attendance (includes swimming + strength training)
