New Wave Places 2nd at Last Splash Invitational in Orlando, Florida, 22 Team Records, State Record Set

Bradford Hancock

WAVE finished out its Championship season by placing 2nd in overall team score at the 2021 Last Splash Invitational hosted by the Rosen Center YMCA in Orlando, Florida. New Wave (3842.5 pts) came in 2nd just behind NCAC (4226 pts) and in front of 3rd place Bolles School Sharks (3509.5 pts). A huge shout out to our 51-swimmer group that all had a fantastic weekend of great swimming!

This was one of our best travel trips in recent memory, with most swimmers earning significant time drops in many of their best and toughest events. Jackson Scheiber swam tough on the final day of the meet, not only taking down the 13-14 800 Free Team Record, but also securing an NCSA and Winter Junior National cut in the process. Mikaela Fullerton, James Bennison, Amanda Ray and Luke Fortner all set Open Team Records in several of the Breast, Fly and Back events. Matthew Marsteiner and Zack Smith both set records in the 15-16 Butterfly events, 200 and 50 Fly, respectively.

Sam Marsteiner took down the 13-14 NC State Record in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:06.87, over 3 seconds faster than his time from prelims. Relays were also a standout of the meet, as a large amount of our open and 13-14 team records were shattered. Here is a list of all of the team records set this week:
