Bryan Walls Head Coach

Coach Walls just finished his Twelfth year of coaching. A native of Indiana, Coach Walls has been involved with swimming for nineteen years as an athlete and a coach. A state finalist in cross country, swimming, and track & field Coach Walls went on to compete in all three sports at the University of Indianapolis, a division II institution. Coach Walls transferred to UND in the fall of 1997. Currently an ASCA level Four age group coach, Coach Walls has coached YMCA All Americans, multiple zone and age group state champions as well as several high school state champions. North Dakota coach of the year in the summer of 2002 and spring of 2003 and winter of 2009  Coach Walls has been the head coach of the RRV Wahoos since the fall of 2002. Coach Walls also teaches sixth grade art at Valley Middle School and South Middle School in Grand Forks, ND.

He currently lives in Grand Forks with his wife Sara, son Jackson, and twin daughters Madiline and Reese.

Amanda Werle Head Age Group Coach

Amanda Werle started coaching for the Wahoos in 2014. Originally from Minnesota, Coach Amanda has been involved in aquatics for over twenty years as an athlete and coach. While in high school, she competed for three years at the MSHSL Swimming and Diving Championships and was voted MVP by teammates her senior year. In 2017, she received her undergraduate degree in kinesiology along with minors in coaching and health. In 2020, she received her Master’s degree in both Early Childhood Special Education and Emotional & Behavioral Disturbances. She is currently an Autism Resource teacher for the Grand Forks Public Schools. She lives in Grand Forks with her husband, Andrew, and their cat, Lucy. Coach Amanda believes in the dedication and commitment of young swimmers to accomplish above and beyond what they ever thought possible. “Never underestimate anyone, especially yourself.”

Max Zola Age Group Coach

- Psychology Major at UND, class of 2024

- Swam senior year with Wahoos and then the Grand Forks KnightRiders

- Specialized in Backstroke

- Made state in first and only year with the team.

Chelsea Mellenthin Age Group Coach

Chelsea is returning to coaching for the Wahoos after some time off. She is a native to the UND Hyslop and swimming. She has been swimming since she was 6 in her small town of Marshall, MN. She grew up swimming for the Southwest Swim Club where her dad was the head coach. She was recruited by the University of North Dakota and spent two years swimming as a Fighting Sioux in mid-distance and distance freestyle events. She earned All American honors in the 4 by 200 freestyle relay at the Division II NCAA finals. She graduated from the University of North Dakota with a Bachelors degree in Psychology and a minor in Leadership, as well as a Masters degree in Higher Education. She loves spending time with her husband, Taylor, daughter Josey and son Maxon. 

Chelsea very much enjoys her time at the pool and learning from her swimmers, and looks forward to many more seasons to come! 

Liv Olson Volunteer Coach

Liv has been a part of Wahoo swimming since 2010, swimming every season with the exception of Long Course her first year on the team. She is currently a member of the RRHS Swim & Dive Team, holding the honor of Team Captain for the 2020 season. 

In addition, Liv is currently in her 2nd year as a member of the Board of Directors for North Dakota Swimming, holding the position of Senior Athlete Representative. This is a position elected by the athlete representatives from each team across the state of North Dakota. As a member of the Board of Directors, Liv represented North Dakota as an attendee in the very first WeLead - Summit in Atlanta Georgia in 2019. 

She is currently an athlete representative on the Central Zone sanction panel, and has also held a position on the Central Zone review panel. 

Liv plans to be a part of the swimming world for years to come, hoping to coach through college and graduate school. She graduates from RRHS in 2022, and plans to pursue a career in the medical field, with additional emphasis on pediatrics, sports medicine and nutrition.

Favorite swimming quote: You'd swim faster if there was chocolate cake at the end of the pool!
