10 & U Champs Meet Wrap Up

John DeCaprio

The 10 & under champs meet was held at the University of Rhode Island pool recently, and several Sailfish swimmers went to the meet. This meet is basically the Age Groups meet for 10 & unders where swimmers from all over New England have to meet pretty competitive cut off times to qualify to swim at this meet. This is a prestigious meet and only the top 20% of swimmers in New England make the cut times, so just qualifying to swim at it is an accomplishment. This year, they added the 8 & under cuts to separate out the 8 & unders from the 10 & unders. In years past, the cuts were just listed as 10 & under so 8 & unders had to make the 10 & u times to qualify for this meet. This meet was a scored meet and awarded points for the top 16 places, so I will mention those here, as well as PRs.

We had 5 8 & under swimmers qualify to swim and they were: Chloe Adler, Charleigh Beaudet, Addison Larochelle, Lulu Swinehart and Kevin Ward. Chloe qualified in 7 events and swim them all at the meet, and swim she did, placing in the top 10 in 3 of her events! She got on the podium (top 8) in her 100 free with 7th place, took home 9th (by .08!) in the 25 breast and grabbed 10th in the 50 breast, with PRs in all of these events. She also PRed her 25 fly and 25 free. Way to go Chloe! Charleigh qualified in the 25 back & 25 fly and swim the 50 free as a bonus event, coming very close to a PR in that event. Nice going Charleigh!. Addison qualified in 3 events, the 25 breast, free & back and swam the 50 breast as a bonus event, getting PRs in 3 out of her 4 events. Good job Addison! Lulu also qualified in 3 events, the 25 breast, back & free and swim the 50 back as a bonus event. She got PRs in her 25 breast & back. Nice going Lulu! Kevin qualified in 2 events, the 25 back & fly and swim the 50 breast as a bonus. He was very close to his best time in the back. Good job Kevin!

Chocorua Longval was our lone 9-10 swimmer who qualified for this meet, qualifying the the 50 & 100 breast events. She swam the 100 IM and 50 fly as bonus events. Not only did she go 4 for 4 with PRs, but she placed in the scoring (top 16) in both breast events, grabbing a top 10 spot with a 10th place finish in the 50 breast and 14th in the 100 breast, despite this being only the 3rd time she swam the 100 breast. Way to go Chocorua!

So, while we are proud of all the Sailfish who qualified for this meet, we especially want to recognize both Chocorua and Chloe for swimming to top 10 spots, Chocorua in the 50 breast and Chloe in her 100 free, 25 breast & 50 breast. We were all very impressed seeing Chloe get to the podium for her 7th place finish in the 100 free! These were pretty great accomplishments by these two girls, considering that swimmers at this meet are among the best in New England. Way to go Chloe and Chocorua! As if that isn’t enough, Chloe also grabbed top honors as the “biggest loser” at this meet, dropping over 4 seconds in her 50 breast.  Nice going Chloe!
