GMA Team Reminders and Team Topics 2/17/21

Laura Matuszak

Dear GMA parents, swimmers and coaches,

We hope that you are enjoying a wonderful winter week as we approach the school break period.  We are thrilled that we have been able to safely swim together in 2021 and we are looking ahead to more opportunities to train our goals, race fast and share our sport with the community!  Here are a few GMA REMINDERS and TEAM TOPICS:

  • Please note that all families have been invoiced for the February training fees.  Payments will be processed to the credit cards and accounts on file on 2/20/21.  Please contact Laura Matuszak with any questions or changes

  • We are working with the staff at UVAC to see if they are able to offer a swim meet for Vermont swimmers in the month of March.  The Vermont State mandates for indoor youth sports competitions are very specific.  We are grateful to UVAC for their consideration.  Running a swim meet comes at great expense for their facility and involves an inherent risk for their staff and membership.  We hope that we can be helpful in developing a safe, healthy and positive meet experience for everyone.

  • We want to thank our parents, athletes and coaches for continuing to follow all of the State mandates relative to indoor youth sports.  Please click HERE for a link to most updated information for your review.  We recognize the challenges of commuting to remote locations, of limited pool space, of physical distancing requirements and of the ongoing stress of living conscientiously for the good of the community.  THANK YOU for keeping GMA swimmers healthy and safe.  THANK YOU for keeping GMA coaches healthy and safe.  THANK YOU for keeping your communities healthy and safe so that someday soon, everyone can enjoy swimming together.  Keep up the good work.  We have many more months to go until we can make big changes in our physical distancing practices. We can do it!

  • We want to thank our athletes for continuing to commit to the team!  Your dedication to attend practices at the pool and Zoom dryland sessions is critical to our strength as a team.  GREAT JOB GMA!  When you show up for training each day, prepared and ready to focus on doing your best, you establish a positive environment in which everyone benefits.  GMA swimmers RULE!

  • Finally, we want to be sure that we all take the time to honor Black History Month within the context of swimming.  You can learn more about the trailblazers in our sport through the USA Swimming website.  Please click HERE for the latest article about one of my favorite athletes, Maritza Correia McClendon, who competed on the USA Swimming National and Olympic teams during the time period when we were just beginning to grow our GMA team.  Maritza has shown excellence in swimming and in life.  How awesome to learn of her commitment to service leadership and her connection with the Sigma Gamma Rho sorority which partners with USA Swimming to increase swimming participation in Black communities! Please click HERE to learn about Sigma Gamma Rho and their incredible leadership in service to others.

We hope you enjoy the rest of the week. Please contact me with any questions or concerns. We’ll see you at the pool soon!
