Officials needed!

Marilyn Soraghan

Officials are needed for our upcoming season and beyond!  In order to run meets, we do need to have officials and our ranks are in need of more. There is training involved and NE Swimming has some upcoming trainings scheduled.  The entry level for officiating is Stroke & Turn so those would be the clinics you would want to consider.  Anyone taking the 10/20 training would likely be able to help at our home meet.

When our team has officials we are also able to help out at other meets that we attend.

The PAB helps to offset the cost of training once it is completed and they will help with the USA Registration fee once you show a commitment to offciating at our meets.

Below are also many great reasons to want to become an official!

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions specific to officiating.  Our current officials include Jon DeAngelis [email protected] and Nick Nash [email protected]

Do let Coach Marilyn know if you are planning to attend a training and are interested in becoming an official.

Info from New England Swim on Officials Traning

In the coming weeks the New England Swimming Officials Committee will be hosting a number of training clinics for the various certified positions. If you are looking to become certified as a new stroke and turn official, or looking to certify or recertify in a new position, clinics will be offered for certification or recertification as a stroke and turn official, starter, referee and administrative official. A summary of the scheduled clinics, along with their Zoom links, can be found below. If you have any questions please reach out to Ken Galica at [email protected] or Jess Workman at [email protected]

Reasons you should consider becoming an official!

  • Like to be up close and see all of the action? Officials have the best views of the pool!

  • Do you want to walk your child on deck and be there for high 5’s or a quick hug right after a swim? Your child can visit with you before / after swims and when they need $.

  • Ever wonder why your child was DQ’d ? Officials learn all the rules.

  • Do you want to avoid waiting in line and paying to get into swim meets? Officials get in for Free. Flash your badge and bypass the line. There is also usually a hospitality room for food and drinks!

  • Need your personal space? Dislike squishing into bleachers? When you officiate, no one can invade your personal bubble.

  • Hate being hot? It’s cooler on deck.

  • Like to meet new people from all over New England? Swim officials are fun people to hang out with.

  • Are you afraid you won’t know what to do? You’ll learn everything you need to know during the class. It’s easy !!!!!! The test is open book!

  • Having officials on our team allows us to host our own meets!
