Junior 1 and Junior 2

The Junior groups are the second and thirds tier in UVAC swimmer development. The focus of this group is continuing to teach proper technique of all four strokes and turns, competitive racing skills (stroke turns, starts, and tactics), and the introduction of aerobic and racing conditioning. Both junior groups require not only a firm grasp of the fundamentals of swimming, but also age-appropriate physical, mental and emotional maturity. 


  • 9 to 13 years of age (Junior 1)
  • 11-15 (Junior 2)


  • Swim all four strokes legally
  • Conduct a legal turn for all four strokes, including the IM
  • Dive from starting block
  • Read the pace clock on the :00, :15, :30 and :45 intervals
  • Swim regular workouts up to 3000 yds (Junior 1) up to 4000 yds (Junior 2)


  • Up to 5 sessions per week for Junior 1 and up to 6 sessions per week for Junior 2 

  • Session duration: 1.25 -1.5 hours depending on group, day of the week, and location

  • 3-5 practices a week recommended for Junior 1 and 4-6 recommended for Junior 2, no minimum required number of practices
