The YMCA of the North Shore Selkies Synchronized Swim Team  is a competitive team that includes over 30 swimmers ages 6-18. The Selkies Synchronized Swim Team promotes the development of self-esteem as swimmers engage physically and creatively in this performance oriented sport. It’s highly specialized coaching staff strives to train, teach and motivate young swimmers in a supportive environment that allows each unique participant to achieve excellence. Selkies coaches create valuable experiences that both the novice and nationally ranked swimmer can carry throughout life.

Swimmers advance through three levels: NoviceIntermediate and Age Group (Junior/Senior).

How Do I Get Involved? Intro to Synchronized Swimming or Novice Program are your first entry points.

The Introduction to Synchronized Swimming program is designed to teach children the basic skills of synchronized swimming. Swimmers will focus on basic skulling and eggbeater technique as well as learn beginner figures and patterns. Prerequisite: Grade 2-6; Ability to swim 50 yards and tread water for 30 seconds. Classes are held once weekly on and length is 45 minutes.  More information is available in the YMCA program catalog and enrollment is through the front desk.  Intro swimmers can move into the competitive team program as Novice Selkies throughout the year.

Novice Team: welcomes new swimmers throughout the year. Novices practice once a week on Tuesday evenings from 4:00 – 5:30 pm and two Sunday’s a month from 12:00-2:00pm at the Greater Beverly YMCA Sterling Center Pool. For more information on a free trial session, please contact us.

As Novice swimmers become comfortable and confident in the water, they can progress to the Intermediate team where swimmers can continue to develop foundational skills with a focus on indivual improvement and team building. Next in the progression is a most competitive level. The Age Group team offers a competitive training and competes at local and national championships.  Swimmers have the opportunity to participate in advanced clinics and progress to USA National Team trials as well as Collegiate opportunities.


Coaching Staff
 
Head Coach: Carrie Reynolds
 
Carrie enters her fourth season with the YMCA North Shore Selkies. As the former Head Coach of the Jamaican National Synchronized Swimming Team (2011, 2012 and summer 2014) she brings a competitive and technical approach to the sport.  Reynolds began her Synchro career with Cambridge Synchro as an athlete and went on to swim at the collegiate level for National Champions, Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO before returning back to Boston.  Upon returning she coached Cambridge Synchro for a year and then headed off to Jamaica. Some of her career highlights include: placing all Age Group members of club team on Jamaican National Team, Top Coach award 2010 and 2011, helping Selkies earn NESSA South High Point Trophy 2012-14, placing two athletes in 2013 USA Synchro All Star Camp at the Colorado Springs US Olympic Training Center, qualifying all senior routines for 2014 JR/SR Zones and leading the Jamaican National Team at the 2014 UANA Pan American Synchronized Swimming Games. Reynolds has a degree in Psychology and plans to pursue a career in Sports Psychologist.
