About Us

Established in August 1971, over the past 50 years the Town of Tonawanda Titans have been training and supporting the youth of WNY.

Our Mission

Our team’s mission is to build on their tradition of excellence for all levels of swimming. Through the development of lifelong friendships and fostering achievement of individual potentials, we take pride in providing life lessons both in and out of the pool.  We strive to consistently operate in a safe and supportive environment with an emphasis on team unity and family participation. We. Are. Titans!

Club History

Originally an Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) club, the Titans have operated in cooperation with the Town of Tonawanda Youth Parks and Recreation Department since 1971. The club formed in August 1971 as a summer swim program for Kenmore East and Kenmore West students and consisted of 4 coaches and approximately 30 swimmers. Practices and meets were held at the Kenmore and Brighton pools.

In 1980 United States Swimming (USS) replaced AAU as the national governing body for competitive swimming, and the club became a USS club.  USA Swimming is the official name for this national governing body today. In 1988, the Tonawanda Swim Club merged with the Western Empire State Titans, another USS swimming club, and became known as the Town of Tonawanda Titans.

In 1990, the Town of Tonawanda Aquatic and Fitness club opened its doors accommodating a 50-meter pool (one of only the three in this area) and hosted the 1993 World University Games. The Titans remain the home club for this facility hosting long and short course swim meets and competing against local and out of area swim teams several times each year.

Our Club’s Name

In Greek mythology the Titans were a race of elder gods that were in power before the Olympian gods replaced them.  The Titan Oceanus – the elder god of the Ocean – was never pictured in Greek art but is often confused with Poseidon, or Neptune holding the trident. Today, members of the Titan Swim Club hold the trident – the scepter carried by the god of the sea.
