The Town of Tonawanda Titans will use the following guidelines to operate in the current environment.

NYS Guidelines

Based on the current NYS guidance and in coordination with the Town of Tonawanda Aquatic Fitness Center management we will be eliminating temperature checks from all Titan practices, meets, and other sponsored events effective Monday, June 21st.

Please understand that at this time there will be NO further changes to our standard procedures in regard to mask wearing for non-vaccinated individuals, no spectators, no locker room usage, and pre-practice/meet line up procedures. As detailed below, these are all still part of our operations until further notice.

Even though we will no longer be taking temperatures, swimmers are asked to wait outside of the AFC until a coach welcomes them in for their practice/meet time.  This is important as we still have many swimmers who are unvaccinated, and we need to ensure everyone is supervised and that we continue to remain socially distant at all times during Titan events.   Titan swimmers are still not permitted to be inside the building without a coach present.

PPE requirements

  • All unvaccinated coaches will wear masks at all times and frequently sanitize hands during practices.
  • All unvaccinated athletes will wear masks entering and exiting the facility, on deck and during dryland activities.  Exceptions will be made for athletes with conditions that prohibit them from wearing a mask pending medical documentation.

 Social distancing requirements

  • Athletes and coaches must maintain 6 feet distance at all times.
  • There will be an area on the pool deck for athletes to leave their personal belongings to ensure social distancing.  Once athletes enter the building, they will go to their spot and await instructions from their coach.

 Facility procedures

  • There will be a one-way entrance and one-way exit.
  • Locker rooms will be limited to restroom use only.
  • All athletes from previous practice must exit the facility before the athletes for following practice may enter.  The facility will be cleaned daily following all practices.

Athlete/family protocol

  • Athletes must arrive and depart in their swimsuit.  Athletes will not be able to change or shower at the facility.
  • Athletes will only be permitted to line up outside the facility immediately before their scheduled practice time.    If they arrive early, they should wait in their car until the appropriate time to enter the facility.
  • Athletes must leave the facility immediately at the completion of any practice.
  • Parents/spectators will not be allowed in the facility at any time and are expected to practice social distancing while waiting for their athlete.  We will ensure that the appropriate number of coaches are present during each practice to comply with MAAPP.
  • Athletes should bring their own water bottle (already filled) and any other equipment required by their coach.

During Practice

  • We will follow USA swimming recommendations for lane spacing to maintain social distancing; as a result, swimmer count in the lane will be reduced.
  • Maximizing swim time and staying off the wall will decrease opportunities for transmission.

Health Precautions

  • All Titans families are required to sign the Covid-19 awareness waiver before attending their first Titan practice or team sponsored event.
  • Any athlete or staff member experiencing any symptoms of a fever, recent cough, unusual fatigue, headache or has had any exposure to someone who has any symptoms should take precautions to remain at home and seek medical treatment.
  • If any athlete or staff member has a fever or symptoms of illnesses, they may not attend practice until 10 days after the fever or symptoms has ceased.
  • Athletes and staff must be cleared for training after being diagnosed or suspected to have COVID-19.
  • For us all to stay healthy and be able to keep swimming, we ask our athletes to please practice responsible social distancing when they are away from the pool as well. Should we feel anyone is consistently not adhering to social distancing guidelines, they or their family’s participation in TTSC activities may be suspended.

Contact Tracing

  • A swimmer who has had close contact of any COVID-19 positive individual should be removed from practice. To return to practice, the swimmer should follow New York State quarantine guidelines.
  • Any COVID positive swimmer should report potential team contacts to coaches immediately. Team contacts should include any teammate who has been within 6 feet of the infected athlete.
