BlueFins attend USA Swimming IM Xtreme Games in College Park, Maryland
This past weekend the BlueFins attended two meets, one in Buffalo, NY, and the second at the University of Maryland in College Park. Two swimmers participated at the USA Swimming IM Xtreme Games hosted by the Potomac Marlins and comprised LSCs throughout the Eastern Zone. LSCs that attended the meet included Adirondack, Allegheny Mountain, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Metropolitan, Middle Atlantic, New England, New Jersey, Niagara, Potomac Valley, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Emilia Carey and Nina Mastrosimone represented the BlueFins this year at the meet, making me incredibly proud. They faced fierce competition from hundreds of athletes. In addition to swimming well, they earned several new personal bests, neither having tapered or rested for this meet. Thanks to their parents for making the trip with them to Maryland!
Qualification for the 2024 meet will be open to any swimmer that is 9 to 14 that has achieved the minimum qualifying score at any age during the qualifying period. That is, a swimmer who has achieved a minimum qualifying score as a 10-year-old and ages up to 11 before the start of the meet will be eligible to enter the meet and compete as an 11-year-old. A 12-year-old who has achieved the minimum qualifying score but ages up to 13 before the start of the meet will be eligible to enter the meet and compete as a 13-year-old (even if they have not swum all the required events as a 13 yr old). Qualification is based on an IMX Score and is not tied to any regional or LSC cut times.
This meet, as mentioned, often conflicts with the STAR meet in Buffalo. It is worth considering, though, as it offers an excellent opportunity for our 9 to 14-year-old swimmers to get an Eastern Zones meet experience and a taste of a higher level of competition in the northeast.
