PLEASE CHECK THE BOX: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Tristan Formon

Berkeley Aquatic Club is writing to ask you for your assistance in the effort of USA Swimming to identify the composition of our sport.

Improving the ethnicity box response is something USA Swimming’s National Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee has established as one of its goals.  As USA Swimming moves forward in identifying ways to “Build the Base”, it is important to know who we are and what trends are happening, in order to determine what direction, we as a sport should go.

Ethnicity (select up to two):

USA Swimming is committed to developing a culture of diversity while protecting the information of our membership. To do that we need accurate, voluntary data. We encourage you to support our efforts by self-selecting your demographic information. Thank you. #SwimClusion

Black or African American

Asian

White

Hispanic or Latino

American Indian & Alaska Native

Native Hawaiian & Other Pacific Islander

Some Other Race

While it is not something that can be mandated, the importance of checking the box helps USA Swimming identify the population it serves, develop marketing strategies, educate families, and create programming.  Please consider reviewing your athlete’s member account within your family team unify account and “CHECK THE BOX” for your athlete’s ethnicity.

USA Swimming needs to develop a clear understanding of who makes up our sport regardless if is by ethnicity, income, etc.  The only way to create this understanding is to collect the most complete data possible.  Please help Berkeley Aquatic Club and NJ Swimming become one of the leaders in providing complete membership information to USA Swimming.

Thank you,
