Background: Tristan began his coaching career in the UK and has been coaching at Berkeley and teaching at the Berkeley Swim School since 1996. Tristan's background includes many years as an elite level swimmer, competing at the regional and national levels, as well as in collegiate swimming at Loughborough University, in a swimming career that took him to the British Olympic Trials. He was named NJ Swimming Age Group Coach of the Year for 2011 and has been selected as a NJS All Star Zone Coach on several occasions. Active in the governance at all levels of the sport of Swimming, Tristan has served as a member of the USA Swimming, Eastern Zone Swimming and New Jersey Swimming Board of Directors. Currently he serves as Eastern Zone Coach Director, member of the USA Swimming Age Group Development Committee and Co-Chair of the USA Swimming Zone Director Council. He received his Master’s Degree in Physical Education with a concentration in Coaching and Sports Administration from Montclair State University.

Stephanie Crofton Coach

Stephanie joins the Berkeley Aquatics family after 22 years at The Atlantic Club and 6 years on Jersey Coast Swim Club head coach/owner. 

She has been coaching for over 40 yrs., age group as well as master swimmers & triathletes.

She is a ASCA Level 4 coach and Level 1 USA Triathlon. Stephanie volunteered her time as an Assistant Manager for USA Swimming Junior Pan Pac’s,

And selected as coach for EZ Select Camps in Buffalo NY and Baltimore MD.

Stephanie graduated from Clarion University with a BS in Business Admin, Marketing & Management majors

She achieved 2 National team championships and 8 All-American while in college. She is a 4 Time Ironman Finisher (Lake Placid/Florida/NJ NY),

And a 4 time age group place at SOS (Survival of the Shawangunk’s). Stephanie still enjoys running, biking and swimming.

Stephanie encourages all to be the best they can be all the time.

Meredith Formon Coach

Background:  Meredith began as an instructor in the Berkeley Swim School in 2001. She joined the Berkeley coaching staff assisting with the age group program in the fall of 2008.  In the Fall of 2018, Meredith began running the Competitive Readiness Clinics for 5 to 7 year olds interesting in joining the competitive team.  She has a passion for helping young athletes develop the skills they need to empower them to be more successful at the next level. Meredith has been selected as a NJS All Star Zone Coach on several occasions.  She was a collegiate cross-country runner.  Meredith graduated from the College of the Holy Cross with a major in Biology and Pre-Med.  


Al Ledgin Coach

“Coach Al” Ledgin comes to the Berkeley Aquatic Club after 15 years as the Head Coach of the Morris County Swim Club (NJS). While leading MCSC, Al had the pleasure and privilege of contributing to the development of a 6 time USA Swimming National Age Group Record Breaker, as well as numerous USA Swimming Top 16 Individuals and Top 10 Relays. Prior to MCSC, Al led programs in Champaign, Decatur, Crystal Lake, New Trier and Lincolnshire, Illinois and also Easton PA between 1978 and 2005. Al has earned Age Group Coach of the Year honors in both Illinois and New Jersey.  Al is also indirectly associated with BAC as his daughter Autumn (now 25 years old and living/working in Nashville, TN) was a member of BAC, a few years back.  When not on deck, Al enjoys listening to live music and often travels an hour or more “searching for the sound”......  

Coach Al is extremely excited about the potential for this opportunity to work with the BAC and it's membership in various ways.


AJ is a BAC alumnus and has been swimming competitively for 12 years. He originally began at the BAC swim school working his way through the program, eventually swimming on the senior team. While on BAC he was a Sectional, Senior Zone, Futures, and TYR Pro Series Qualifier. AJ held multiple records at his High School for the Medley Relay, 50 Free, and 100 Breastroke.  AJ was a D1 collegiate level swimmer, and was part of the Varsity Men’s team for Old Dominion all four years of college, participating in conferences each of his 4 years, with his relay teams coming in 3rd place at the 2021 CCSA Conference Championships. AJ recently graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice.

Bud Rimbault Coach

Bud has coached for over 45 years at various location in New Jersey, Texas and Arizona.  Most recently he has served as Director of Competitive Swimming at Ridgewood YMCA.  His swimmers have qualified for Y Nationals, Junior Nationals, Senior Nationals and Olympic Trials and won events at Y Nationals and Junior Nationals and scoring at Senior Nationals.  In addition to coaching Bud has served in many different administrative positions in NJ Swimming, Gulf Swimming and NJ Y swimming. 

Before coaching full time Bud earned a masters degree at Teachers College, Columbia University and taught history while coaching high school swimming.

Tim Shallcross Coach

Tim’s athletic and coaching background are both long term and diverse. His passion for sport and coaching comes from his dad who was a Collegiate 3 sport athlete and one of New Jersey’s first Inductee’s into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Oklahoma. After a successful high school sport career, which included an NJ State soccer title and a placing in States as a wrestler - Tim continued on as a Division 1 college wrestler. After University, Tim embarked on a successful career as an Institutional Fixed Income Trader and Executive. Tim never lost his own passion for competition however, becoming an Ironman and Age Group National Qualifying Triathlete as well as an experienced Open Water Swimmer.

His coaching calling started as an elite New Jersey wrestling coach, which saw many of his proteges ultimately qualify for Division 1 Nationals. Tim’s diversity in coaching includes coaching employees from Bristol Meyers Squib for Walton Endurance’s cycling across America in the “Cure for Cancer” effort. Tim is a Level 1 USA Triathlon coach and Level 2 USA Masters Swim coach concentrating on training step cycles/phases and stroke technique.


Art began swimming competitively at age 11, swimming for the Lakeland Hills and Randolph Area YMCAs. A YMCA All American in the 100 backstroke with multiple top 10 finishes at HS States, Art finished out his career swimming at Rider University winning the 100 back conference title as a sophomore. He has coached for 6 years at Blue Eagle in Nazareth PA when his son decided to swim competitively working with all levels of swimmers from 9/10s to USA Swimming Junior National qualifiers.
