This past weekend Scarlet BMS had four swimmers compete at the respected U.S. Open Championships. The competition was a total of three days beginning on November 12th and concluded today November 14th. In addition, the meet was held in Long Course Meters in 50 Meter pools. Due to the coronavirus pandemic the U.S. Open was hosted at 9 different locations simultaneously whereas under normal circumstances it would only take place at one specific location. This meet attracts athletes from the highest levels of swimming; Olympians, National Team members, as well as top swimmers from other countries around the World attend this meet under normal circumstances.

One location of this meet took place at the Indiana University Natatorium located in Indianapolis, Indiana. Our very own Danielle Prekop competed in the U.S. Open at this location in the 200 IM which took place on Friday November 13th.

At the same time in Richmond, Virginia three of our male swimmers competed which include: James Don, Oleksiy Polishchuk, and Brian Uribe. James Don competed in the 800 Freestyle and 200 Breaststroke. Oleksiy Polishchuk is a Breaststroke specialist who competed in both the 100 and 200 Breaststroke. Oleksiy managed to secure a top 8 finish with a best time of 1:04.52 in the 100 Breast. As for the 200, Polishchuk finished 3rd overall with another best time of 2:18.24 bringing him only half a second within the Olympic Trial cut! Whereas, Brian has specialties in Backstroke and IM which led him to compete in the 400 IM, 100 and 200 Backstroke.

We are beyond proud of these swimmers for qualifying as well as competing at this meet and look forward to hopefully getting back to the competition scene soon!
