Roman Sloudnov Director of Competitive Swimming

Dear Dolphins,

I am very excited to be a part of the YMCA Dolphins swim team as a Director of Competitive Swimming. My own passion for the sport comes from a long journey toward Olympic podium led by my parents who were coaching me all along. I grew up in Omsk, Russia and moved to US in 2006 to earn my BS in Finance from Missouri State University. After graduating from college, I continued to swim for Russian National Team and qualified for my fourth Olympic Games. After retiring from a competitive swimming, I have held various positions including finance associate, age group coach and head coach. In addition to the world of sport, I have a genuine interest in reading classic literature, speculating currencies and learning how to play guitar.

Kyle Laracy Coach

Kyle has been coaching the Dolphins for the past three years.  He is passionate about making a positive impact on every swimmer he coaches while hoping to inspire their athletic, social, and emotional growth.  He is eager to give back to the sport that transformed his own personal development and build a legacy of excellence in the Montclair community.

As a youth in Worcester, MA, he swam for the Greendale YMCA, the Worcester Swim Club, Worcester Academy, and Greenwood Memorial and was a top performer throughout New England.  He swam all four years in college at Columbia University helping the Lions in the distance freestyle, butterfly, and individual medley events and then went on to compete for the New York Athletic Club where his teams won several National Championships in the 5K Open Water race.

Kyle was also a 4th Grade Teacher recently in the area.  This following a long and successful career as a Global Sales Leader at Lionbridge Legal, formerly Geotext Translations.

He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in History from Columbia and has a Level 2 ASCA credential.  He has four children, loves playing golf, and still competes in Open Water swimming races

Christopher Hanson Coach

Christopher Hanson has been an assistant coach at the YMCA of Montclair since 2008. His coaching emphasizes technique to cultivate a balanced, self-empowered athlete. In life outside the pool, he practices meditation, tai chi and (occasionally) yoga. These disciplines support a well-rounded focus to his swim practice. Chris began his swimming career in 1981 with the Hollin Hills Bluefish (Northern Virginia Swim League), where he also coached for two seasons during college. He earned his varsity letter with Bishop Ireton High School, serving as team captain his senior year. During that time, he also swam with Nation’s Capital Swim Club (formerly Curl Burke Swim Club). Chris was an NCAA Division III swimmer in the Landmark Conference for the Susquehanna University River Hawks (formerly the Crusaders), earning his varsity letter in his first year, graduating with a BA in Theater. He also has an MA in Sustainability Studies from Ramapo College of New Jersey.

Daniel Scialabba Coach

Dan is a soon to be graduate at Montclair State University majoring in Communications and Media Arts. He grew up swimming in Jackson, NJ, and was on the high school varsity swim team at Jackson Liberty Highschool. He went on to compete in Counties in the 500 freestyle and 100 backstroke his freshman year. As he swam competitively he taught swim lessons at Frog Bridge Summer Camp.

After graduating from Liberty High School, Dan continued to swim competitively at Ocean County College until after he transferred to Montclair State University where he continued his swimming career as a swim instructor for Lifecycle Aquatics in Montclair, NJ and British Swim School in Clifton, NJ.

"As an Assistant Swim Coach at the YMCA of Montclair I look forward to seeing every competitive YMCA swimmer grow to their highest standards."

Ruth Roberts Coach

Ruth will be entering her first season as an Assistant Coach with the Montclair YMCA Dolphins. Before joining MYM, Ruth coached all age groups for the Indianola Tide swim team at the YMCA in Indianola, Iowa.

Ruth swam competitively for twelve years at the Sarpy County Swim Club, formerly Monarch Swimming, in Papillion, Nebraska. Her favorite stroke was the butterfly but her favorite event was the 100 yard Individual Medley. One of her proudest moments of her swim career was swimming the 200 yard butterfly at the age of 9. Ruth’s competitive career was brought to an end due to a shoulder injury, but while competing she had the opportunity to qualify and swim at various levels including state, All Stars, and Zones.

When coaching, Ruth puts a lot of emphasis on technique and endurance training. She feels it is important to incorporate goal setting and to develop athletes holistically to be successful both in and out of the pool. Ruth lives in Montclair with her husband, Matt, and their corgi Ein.
