Nadine Vasilakis
Coach Nadine joined the OCY Coaching Staff in December 2015.
 
Family: Nadine lives with her husband Bill and children Evangelia, Vasili, Anastasia; all three are currently members of the OCY swim team.
 
College: William Paterson College
 
Swimming/Coaching Experience: Nadine started swimming at 3 years old at the Fayson Lakes summer swim team, where she helped as an assistant coach for two summers. When she was 7, she started swimming at the Lakeland Hills YMCA and swam there for 10 years. During her time at LHY, she attended YMCA Nationals in 1980, 1981 and 1982. She placed 17th in the 200 Breaststroke in 1982. She also swam for Kinnelon High School. She currently swims with the OCY Masters Team.
 
What does Nadine like about coaching with OCY?: "I enjoy having the opportunity to give back what swimming has given and taught me. I love helping kids learn through perserverance and determination and that all things are possible."

Keith McShaffrey

Coach Keith joined the OCY Coaching Staff in May 2016.

Family:  Keith is the proud father of 2 children, his son Connor and daughter Ryanne.

College:  University of Delaware (1992), Georgian Court University (1994), and Masters from University of Scranton (2009)

Swimming/Coaching/Educational Experience:

Keith has been working with kids for 23 years in both the elementary and high school settings. His last eight years have been in administration and he currently is the Assistant Principal in the Berkeley Township Elementary Schools. Prior to administration he served as a teacher and varsity swimming/soccer coach for the Lacey and Southern High Schools

  • 8 years administration: Barnegat H.S Vice-Principal. and Berkeley Township Elementary Schools Assistant Principal
  • 15 years of teaching: 8 years Lacey H.S. and 7 years Southern Regional H.S.
  • 17 years of varsity coaching: Boys and Girls Soccer and Swimming Southern Regional and Lacey H.S.  (Varsity Soccer/Swimming)
  • I have been fortunate to work with hardworking athletes and great coaches this resulted in being part of six B-South Championships, one A-South Championship, one Ocean County Championship, and one Shore Conference Championship during my high school coaching career.
  • Started the Lacey Township Swimming team
  • Coach the Berkeley Summer Swim Team
  • Now serving as the Lead JR2 Coach for OCY :)

What does Keith like about coaching at OCY?: “I am amazed everyday with the commitment and dedication of the “OCY “ swimmer. I believe everyone has a talent and something to offer and after working with your sons and daughters my appreciation of their hard work has been affirmed by their positive attitude and teamwork. It is a pleasure to work with such hard working individuals.

Suzanne Kircher
Alyssa Ringel
Alyssa joined the OCY coaching staff in April 2018. 
 

Family: Alyssa comes from a purely soccer loving family and is the only one who swam. She is engaged to Ray :)

College: Monmouth University
 
Nickname: Coach Princess 
 
Swimming/Coaching Experience: Alyssa began swimming for the West Orange swim team when she was 7 years old and continued swimming summers with them through High School. When she was 9 she joined the West Essex Red Devils club team for a few years, until moving over to the Montclair Dolphins for the remainder of her high school years. 
 
Alyssa started to coach her town's summer league when she was 17 and continued with them for six summers. After she graduated college she began coaching the Montclair Dolphins until moving down the shore.  
 
She is currently a 5th grade teacher in Bayville.
 
What does Alyssa like about coaching with OCY?  I grew up in north Jersey and loved the family atmosphere I felt whenever I went to swim practice. Having a place in my new home to feel comfortable and happy in is an amazing feeling. OCY has been extremely welcoming and its so rewarding to be a part of this Tiger Shark community.
 
Maurien Morris

Coach Maurien joined the OCY Coaching Staff in 2007.

Family:  Maurien is married to Dave and has five children:  Marissa, Brianna, Colleen, Cassidy and Gregory.  All have been  on the OCY Tiger Sharks Swim Team. 

College: Attended Seton Hall University

Swimming/Coaching experience:

Maurien has also been teaching swimming lessons here at OCY since 2005 before she started her competitive coaching career.  She is also a YMCA swim official. 

What does Maurien like about coaching with OCY?

“I love introducing children (and their parents) to the sport of swimming.  Because I see most of our swimmers from the very beginning, I am so proud of what they go on to accomplish.  My goals are to make their first swim team experiences positive, and to encourage them to continue on to OCY Tiger Sharks."

Gene Tutzauer
Gene joined the OCY Coaching Staff in September 2017
 
Family: Gene comes from a competitive family playing a wide range of sports. He is the oldest of four and is the only swimmer. His mother coaches both basketball and softball.

College: Ocean County College (2013) New Jersey Institute of technology (2013)

Swimming/Coaching Experience: Gene started swimming his freshman year at Toms River High School North. After graduating he attended and swam at Ocean County Community College for 2 years, then transferred to the New Jersey Institute of Technology where he swam mostly distance free and IM his remaining two years. He currently swims with the OCY Masters Team.

What does Gene like about coaching with OCY?
"In my swimming career the best experiences revolved around me accomplishing my goals or seeing teammates accomplish theirs. Being able to have even an ounce of influence towards another swimmers reaching that same state of accomplishment and seeing that million dollar smile after they hit their time is why I coach."

Jen Betts Masters Lead Coach

Jen is in her 4th year with OCY.

Family: Jen lives with her husband, Coach Mike Betts, their daughter Addison, and son Landon.

College: St. Peter’s College (undergraduate), Kean University (graduate)

Swimming/Coaching Experience:

Jen began swimming at Rahway YMCA at the age of seven. She also swam for Berkeley Aquatic Club in middle school and Scarlet Aquatic Club in high school. In college, Jen swam for St. Peter’s where she was a MAAC conference finalist. She is currently a Master’s Swimmer for OCY.

Jen coached the Blue Group for two years and is now coaching the Masters group at OCY.
She has also coached at the Community Campus in Edison for two years.

What does Jen like about coaching at OCY:

Jen enjoys sharing her knowledge and experience of swimming with people who enjoy the sport. Fellow coaches and swimmers at OCYMCA are a pleasure to work with.
