Welcome to Princeton Tigers Aquatics Club Water Polo Team!

We play for fun and compete for victory!

Water polo is an exciting, challenging, and fun sport!  It is full-contact and its competitiveness cannot be underestimated. A water polo athlete needs to have the over-arm accuracy of a baseball pitcher, the vertical skills of a volleyball player, the toughness of a rugby and a hockey player, the endurance of a cross-country skier and the strategy of a chess player. The game is great to watch and even better to play!

This program is designed for all ages and levels.  A year-round Tiger's season lasts from September until the end of July, culminating with upper-level Tigers Teams competing at the National Championships in the summer. Our club’s philosophy is that our focus is not on winning championships until the summer. Throughout the year, we care most about our athletes growing and having fun. This must come first. All of our athletes are passionate about the sport. Our coaches see it as an honor to support them in their passion, and to watch them getting better, sometimes by the day. Then, in the spring, we begin to turn our attention to the national championships. Our greatest success is that we train for fun and compete for victory – it’s a great lesson for any youth athlete.

Each player is individually assigned to a training group based on age and experience. The Junior Group (ages 10-14) and Senior Group (ages 14-18) practice three times per week, while the Splashball group (ages 5-9) practices twice per week. Players then compete in age-based groups, playing as U12 Coed, U14 Coed, U16 Coed, U18 Men, and U18 Women.  Please refer to the Calendar for more details.

Our goal in our Junior (ages 10-14) and Senior (ages 14-18) level water polo groups is to improve skills, teach cutting-edge techniques and advance players’ understanding of game concepts and team play. Each training session usually consists of individual drills and scrimmages. We strive to encourage the development of Water Polo, to promote excellence in the sport and to provide all players with the opportunity to reach the level of personal achievement that their determination and ability allow them to attain.

Our younger players participate in our Splashball program, which will provide the novice player with all the FUN-damentals of Water Polo while developing the essentials of teamwork and sportsmanship.  Our Splashball players will use flotation devices, the shallow side of the Dillon Gymnasium pool, and other kid-friendly elements to allow players to graduate to a friendly version of water polo directly from beginning swim lessons.  Kids can begin wearing any type of swimwear they want, including board shorts or “jammers.”  They can also use flotation devices like vests or noodles, and they can bounce off the bottom of the pool.  The game allows them to build their skills in a safe, supervised aquatic environment.  Splashball will help to create a water-safe child in a fun setting, effortlessly learning swimming and water safety principals as part of the Splashball coaching technique.

The strength of the team is in each individual member...the strength of each member is in the team.
