Masters Swim Group

The word “Master” swimmer has nothing to do with your skill level or competency, just your age. Although the name can sound intimidating, Masters swimming is truly for anyone over the age of 18! Nationally, there are 45,000 registered Masters swimmers in the United States. A Masters swimmer is anyone over the age of 18 and the age groups go in five-year blocks beginning with 19-24, 25-29, 30-30 all the way up to 95+.

When people look into the possibility of joining a Masters team swimmers are often worried if they are “fast enough?” “good enough?”. With our Masters program, there are just two prerequisites for joining - time and patience. As with our youth groups, swimmers are grouped in lanes by ability level and our coach will tailor workouts to match the ability and fitness level of each group and swimmer so that all participants get the most out of each workout.

We host dual sanctioned USAS/USMS meets throughout the year. While not mandatory, these meets provide our Master's swimmers the opportunity to compete with youth and Masters swimmers from around the State, and a way to formally track their progress. We find that once an athlete gets to a comfortable competency, they enjoy the competitive and social aspects of swimming that go along with competition.

The New Mexico Masters swimming website is a great resource for anyone interested in Masters Swimmers, including Masters swim groups around the state, and information on upcoming classes, courses, and clinics.
