This weekend, a small band of 19 intrepid NOVA swimmers took to the lake and competed in the first ever Open Water JO. With the increasing popularity of open water swimming, Southern California Swimming is beginning to offer more opportunities for age group swimmers to compete in the growing sport. The race was held at Castaic Lake, just north of Valencia on Monday morning, July 29th. 10 and under swimmers raced 1 kilometer, 11 and 12 years olds competed for 2 kilometers, and everyone 13 and older did 3 kilometers....

The NOVA Age group swimmers captured the Junior Olympic Long Course Championship this past week in Mission Viejo. Nova was the highest scoring team in both the Men and Combined divisions. The Women placed second. Nice Job!

Workouts will be run Mon-Thurs only Senior Training: 4:30-6:00 pm 8-unders: 5:15-6:00 pm 9-14 Age-Group: 6:00-7:00 pm All Groups will return to their normal sites on Sept 3, 2013

Hunter Hitchens recently bettered the Novaquatics long course Team Record for the 13-14 boys 200 butterfly by racing in a time of 2:09.23. The old record was held by Jason Rodriquez from 2011. Not too bad for a boy who just turned 13 back in April, which means Hunter still has long course meets up until 2015 to improve upon that time in this age-group. When asked what was next, Hunter replied that his goal was the National Age-Group Record of 1:59.02 held by some guy named Phelps.

Shawn Lou set a new NOVA team record on the 11-12 Boys 50 meter back at the Speedo Grand Challenge. Shawn times of 30.48 beat the previous record held since 1997 by Michael Cavic (30.89).
