Dallas Mustangs

The Dallas Mustangs wish everyone a Happy New Year and hope that it is off to a great start! The swimmers are coming off some hard training over the holidays and if they aren’t sore, they didn’t make it to enough practices. Now it’s a mad dash to the finish the busy season as we have our championship meets beginning next month. Our top swimmers will be preparing for the Sectional Championships at Texas A&M and the Texas Age Group Championships in Lewisville, along with many of our high school swimmers who have their State meets.

December was a busy month for the Mustangs. Along with all of the meets, we had our annual Swim-A-Thon, which raised over 17k. Thank you to all of those who donated! A big pat on the back goes out to Lulu Fisher, Chloe Fisher, Christine Salmassian, Alex Hung and Isabel Arnold who were our top fundraisers, all raising at least $1,000. Great job to you and your families!

December swim meets included the COR Classic, the King Marlin Pro-am, and the Jingle Bell Classic, which were all held here in Dallas. The highest-level meet of the month for the Mustangs was the USA Junior Nationals in Seattle, where the Mustangs were represented by Carson Brockette. The most notable meet was probably the Pro-am, which brought together 45 teams from around the country, including California, Nevada, Wisconsin, Virginia, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. Some past Olympians also competed and added to what was already a fast meet and a great experience for the swimmers. The Mustangs battled well and finished fourth overall in the team standings. Details of all those meets are listed below. Congratulations to all of the Mustangs who competed well.

Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye and good luck to both of our Bronze coaches at HP. Tom will be having to concentrate his time on his “real” job being a CPA with the big tax season coming up and Andrew will be moving to Austin to work on furthering his studies. We are excited to welcome Alex Walton, graduate and a national qualifier from the University of Missouri, and Kate Robinson, daughter of coach Paul and Dallas Mustangs alum, to the coaching staff. Alex will also be helping out at SMU and is available for lessons. Feel free to give Alex a call at 563-506-0192 to set up lessons.
