FEBRUARY 2021 DM NEWSLETTER

We hope that the New Year is off to a great start for all of our Mustang families. Our upper-level swimmers had numerous great swims at the recent Greater Southwest Invitational held in Lewisville the last weekend of January (details below) and set themselves up for great opportunities as we move into the championship part of the season. Our older swimmers will be concentrating on their high school, local LSC and regional championship meets, while our younger Mustangs will focus on our Intrasquad and Texas Age Group Championships. We wish the best of luck to all of our Mustangs who will be competing in the coming weeks – have fun racing!

There will be some scheduling changes coming up later this month and starting in March, we will be changing the weekly schedule a bit due to the Highland Park Pool becoming available. Unfortunately, we were not given as much time at HP as we would have liked so we are limited to which groups could have access to that pool. All of those details are listed below. As we continue to move through these trying times, our program will continue to provide the best possible situation for all of our swimmers and their families. Please continue to adhere to our safety protocols so that we can keep all of those involved with the daily operations safe. By working together, we can continue to provide a valuable and positive experience for the swimmers. Thank you!

NUTRITION

Nutrition is a key part of any athlete’s success. When and what you eat can make a huge difference in your overall health and energy levels. Daily consumption should also depend on the stage of training. A swimmer should be eating more during the hard training weeks of the season and less during the rest, or taper, periods. Here is a good article on general nutrition information for swimmers.

GREATER SOUTHWEST INVITATIONAL

As mentioned previously, our swimmers had a great meet at this year’s Greater Southwest Invitational. For our younger swimmers, it was the first time they have had a chance to race someone other than their teammates. Two of those swimmers who excelled were 10 and unders Karolina Valko and Simone Edwards, who scored 133 and 129 points respectively – Wow! Leading the scoring in the other age groups were: 11-2 girls Sienna Acuff (94 pts), 13-14 girls Chloe Fisher (62 pts), 15 and over girls Brooke Adams (96 pts), 10 and under boys Zayne Wieland (76 pts), 11-12 boys Gavin Liberi (22 pts), 13-14 boys Sean Li (25 pts) and 15 and over boys Nicolas Sobenes (43 pts). Congratulations to these Mustangs and to all of those who battled well for our team at the meet!

SPEEDO BENEFITS

The Dallas Mustangs are a Speedo sponsored team so we encourage all of our swimmers to use Speedo products. When you make Speedo purchases through D&J Sports, just let them know you are with the Mustangs and you will receive a 25% discount. Remember that’s only on Speedo products. Also, a reminder that swimmers should wear a team suit and cap at all meets. We will be taking orders for a new summer team suit in the next couple of months and we’ll get that information out to you when we finalize.

COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

Please read the following safety protocols our swimmers, coaching staff and parents will need to follow at each of our pools. Remember, these protocols may change due to pool configurations or safety guideline developments. This is uncharted territory for all of us, but by working together, we can make the most of these trying times. There is always a possibility that the facility may have to close again with little or no notice based on current Government regulations and developments.

REMINDER: Swimmers must swim in their assigned group/location.

Swimmers:

  1. Swimmers should be ready to enter the facility 5 minutes before the scheduled practice time begins and will leave the facility within 5 minutes after the scheduled practice time ends.
  2. Swimmers will need to wear a mask when entering and exiting the facility.
  3. Swimmers will wear a mask if they need to use the bathroom during practice.
  4. Each swimmer must wear his/her suit to and from the pool.
  5. Swimmers are to always stay at least 6 feet away from others while inside and outside of the facility.
  6. Swimmers will not share any of their belongings with other swimmers.

Coaches:

  1. Coaches will wear a mask while at the swimming facility. The mask may be removed in order to give instructions.
  2. Coaches will remain at least six feet away from others and will not have physical contact with swimmers unless aid must be given.
  3. Coaches will prop doors open when possible at the beginning and end of practices so that swimmers do not have to touch/use door handles to enter or exit the facility.
  4. Coaches will instruct swimmers where and when to move about the pool.
  5. Coaches will take attendance each day to help with tracking swimmers if necessary.

Parents:

  1. Parents will not be allowed inside the pool facilities or areas.
  2. Parents should remain inside their cars during drop off and pick up of swimmers.
  3. Parents must monitor their child’s health and not bring the child to practices if he/she shows any signs of illness or if any other members of the household show signs of illness.
  4. If a swimmer or any member of the swimmer’s household tests positive for COVID-19, that parent must notify Head Coach Mook ([email protected]) immediately and not come to practice until cleared to do so.
