 Dear RACE Families:

We are receiving more information daily and are planning as fast as we can.

Please know that we are doing everything we can to ensure the safety of our athletes, coaches, instructors, and staff.  The practice schedule is located on our website www.rockwallaquatics.comPractice is voluntary.  RACE cares about its swim families and we want you to feel safe during these unsure times.  If you choose not to practice with us, please let us know.  You will not be charged for months you do not attend practice.

As conditions change, we will be able to expand our offerings, and you will be the first to know. Please contact us with any questions you have after reading the information below (mailto:[email protected])

FAQ for Reopening RACE

We will be swimming 2 per lane at the beginning. We will increase the number of swimmers per lane in the future.  This will allow us to stay within the USA Swimming/TEA/UIL guidelines while allowing us to continue to test our practice system to ensure the safety of our swimmers and staff members.

What to expect?

  • Do not come to practice if you are having a bad allergy day.  We understand it is allergies, but it makes everyone else extremely uncomfortable.

  • Swimmers will arrive 10 minutes before your practice time & line up outside their assigned doors wearing face masks.

  • Come prepared for your practice dressed in your suit with your cap and goggles, filled water bottle & equipment bag.

  • We will not be able to loan equipment to swimmers.  It is imperative they come prepared to swim with all their equipment.

  • Vending machines & water fountains will not be operational.  The water bottle filler is operational but please make sure your swimmer brings a filled water bottle to practice.

  • For the foreseeable future, we are requiring all RISD personnel (including coaches, janitorial services and office staff) to wear a face mask while inside our swim center.  Outside, masks are not required, but are encouraged.  Swimmers will not wear masks while swimming but must wear one into the building until they enter the water.

  • Spectators are now able to watch practice from the stands. For tracibility reasons, specators must sign up to view practice. Use this link or click the button on our website

  • Contact us immediately if anyone in your family is diagnosed with COVID-19 or anyone is compromised.

What will happen with my billing if I do not want to re-join yet?

NOTHING!  You will not be charged.  You must OPT-IN to programming for any fees to be added into your account.  RACE would never charge you for months you choose not to attend due to Covid 19 as this is a health issue and RACE has had a longstanding policy of not charging swimmers who cannot practice because of illness or injury.  We require changes you would like made to your account (such as deactivation) in writing (mailto:[email protected]).

Is it safe to swim?

Per the CDC, “There is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread to humans through the use of pools, hot tubs or spas, or water playgrounds. Proper operation, maintenance, and disinfection (e.g., with chlorine and bromine) of pools, hot tubs or spas, and water playgrounds should inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19.”  The state of Texas has also set forth pool guidelines.  The links to these guidelines along with UIL, NHHS and RISD are at the bottom of this document.

When is my practice?

Log in to your RACE account ( and click my account.  Click the members tab and it should show you what practice group your swimmer is assigned.  After that click the Practice Schedule tab on the front page of our website.  We are doing our very best to accommodate everyone keeping within our current physical distancing guidelines.

What is RACE doing to encourage physical distancing?

  • A RACE Staff member will be at the designated door ensuring swimmers following the guidelines.  We reserve the right to send anyone home who has a fever or is exhibiting symptoms of illness.

  • Please drop swimmers off 10 minutes prior to their practice time.  Swimmers will line up outside the aquatic center at the designated door, standing on the markers placed on the sidewalk 6 ft apart wearing face masks.

  • RISD staff will wear a face mask while inside the building.

  • Locker rooms are closed for the foreseeable future.  Swimmers should arrive in their suits, ready to swim.  The family bathroom is available if necessary for swimmers and staff only.  Water bottle filler is operational but the fountains are closed.

  • Swimmers must bring their own equipment.  We are unable to store equipment at this time, so swimmers must take it with them after practice.  We cannot allow the use of lost and found goggles or caps so please make sure your swimmer has all their equipment.

  • PER UIL guidelines we are unable to launder lost and found items.  It is critical swimmers take all their items with them when practice is over.  We will be unable to save lost items for reclaiming.

How many people will be in the building with my swimmer?

RISD swimmers who opted to practice, Swim Coaches, Office staff, Lifeguards, Janitorial staff.

What will RACE do to keep the facility clean?

  • We have always followed CDC cleaning protocols and those set out by other health professionals and authorities.  We also use CDC recommended cleaning products.

  • The facility will be wiped down between groups, including high traffic areas and all door handles, toilets, etc.

  • Hand sanitizer will continue to be available throughout the facility.

  • Cleaning by our janitorial staff will continue and, as always, they will use commercial grade cleaning supplies approved by the CDC.  Additional deep cleans will be utilized as needed or recommended.

What is RACE doing to keep the pools properly maintained?

  • RACE will continue to follow State and County regulations on pool maintenance.

  • We use chlorine as per usual for sanitization of the water.  In addition to the appropriate use of chlorine, each pool has a high-quality UV water purification system that keeps the water clean. When water is pumped through our UV system, ultraviolet light rays kill dangerous germs and inactivates viruses.

  • We will continue to monitor the pool's chemistry throughout the day as well as our state-of-the-art electronic pool monitoring systems.

  • We will purge the air more frequently for fresh air recirculation.

When will RACE get back to regular operations?

Per our Athletic Director Russ Reeves via email titled RACE UPDATE dated June 3rd “First and foremost Rockwall ISD Aquatic Center is committed to getting ALL of our RACE swimmers in the water as quickly as possible.  It is our hope that as our governmental agencies ease restrictions on facility usage, we can return to servicing all of our swimmers as we have done the past 10 years……….We will work within regulatory and safety guidelines to open as we are able.  We are looking forward to phasing in all non-ISD swimmers, masters, more swimmers per lane for swim practices, swim lessons, and community swimming in the future…..The decision on how we will open all our facilities is tied to national, state, and local requirements and procedures that we, as a school district are following.”  Per article titled UIL Allows Texas Schools To Resume Workouts,  “Reeves states that he understands the frustration that swim families who aren’t yet allowed to resume using the aquatics facilities are feeling, and that he knows how hard they’ve worked.  But he also said he views this limited opening as a good test run for their safety procedures before a wider opening.”
