Dan McAllen Memorial Scholarship

Dan McAllen, a devoted USA Swimming member and volunteer at nearly every level of the sport, served in many capacities within USA Swimming for almost 40 Years.   His heart stayed always with North Texas Swimming, where he served as the General Chair for 8 years.

As former USA Swimming Board of Directors Southern Zone Director and Rules and Regulations Committee Chair, McAllen spent most of his time in the sport as an official, working countless USA Swimming and NCAA meets including the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming as Meet Referee.

Dan also served terms as a USA Swimming Program Operations Vice Chair and Officials Committee Chair, and in 2007 received the Kenneth J. Pettigrew Award, an annual recognition that is given to an individual chosen by the USA Swimming Officials Committee for dedication as a swimming official.

Dan McAllen had a great heart with kindness and concern for others. He was a mentor and a teacher for all officials, believing that all officials should be athlete centered and open to coaches.

He believed in the vision of USA Swimming: “To inspire and enable our members to achieve excellence in the sport of swimming and in life.” In keeping with this, North Texas Swimming is establishing the Dan McAllen Memorial Scholarship. This will be a bi-annual scholarship to be awarded April 1 and September 1 of each year to one recipient. This scholarship will honor a man  who believed in our athletes and all that they can succeed in life. (see Scholarship Guidelines)
