Brian Dangelmaier Program Director

MARS head coach with over 27 years of experience.  Former professor of biomechanics at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), and adjunct professor of exercise physiology at The University of North Texas, with more than 45 professional publications and presentations.  Author or co-author of three books covering topics of biomechanics and physiology of sport.  Coach of 2002 and 2004 High School National Champion and several Top 16 National Reportable swimmers.  Brian is also a licensed Expert Coach with USA Cycling for more than two decades.  Long time member of the Board of Trustees of the Texas Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine (TACSM), Age Group Chairman of North Texas Swimming, and member of the Age Group Development Committee at USA Swimming. Brian was elected to the position of USA Swimming Southern Zone Age Group Chairman in 2008, and has served in many administrative roles within North Texas Swimmng.  Brian earned his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science at UTA, his Masters of Science degree from the University of North Texas, and is a doctoral candidate in biomechanics at Texas Woman’s University.  Brian is a full-time Arlington ISD swimming coach and teacher at Lamar High School.  Brian's phone number is 817-925-0505.

Suzanne Dangelmaier Director of Operations

Suzanne is the MARS Director of Operations with more than 12 years of coaching experience and more than 12 years experience in many other areas of aquatics.  Suzanne is a American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor, Water Safety Instructor and Certified Pool Operator.  She also serves as the Diversity and Outreach Chair for NT Swimming and is the Executive Director of the MARS Foundation.  Suzanne earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Exercise Science from UTA and her Master’s Degree in Education, also at UTA. Suzanne is the Arlington High School head swimming coach and currently teaches physics at Arlington Martin High School.  Suzanne’s phone number is 214-793-4773.

Shannon Gillespy Senior Assistant Coach

Coach Shannon has coached for over 28 years (5 with Team Orlando and 22 with Lakeside Aquatic Club).  Shannon is the head coach at Marcus High. She has been the High School District and Region Coach of the Year numerous times, has coached TAGS and High School State Champions, and Olympic Trial Qualifiers.  Swimming competitively since age 8, she lettered at SMU and SW Texas State, where she received a BS in Education and MA in Recreational Business. She has served on the USA Swimming Board of Directors, as the TISCA president, and on the USA National team swimming staff (most recently at the 2012 London Olympics and 2013 Barcelona World Championships).  Coach Shannon is ASCA 3 certified and is the General Chair for North Texas Swimming.

Lauren Black Office Manager

Lauren grew up in the Metroplex, she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Religion from the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, AR in 2009. She began swimming at the age of eight for Emler's Swim school and then swam for  Lamar High School all four years.  She worked for MARS as a swimming lessons teacher for three summers at the Trinity pool during summer breaks from college.   Lauren also coached at Trinity high school and UT-Arlington for MARS for a number of years. Lauren also coaches for Nolan Catholic High school where she is the head coach for girls and boys. Away from the pool Lauren works at Lake Highlands Presbyteian Church in Dallas as the Director of Youth and Children's Ministries.  Hobbies and interests of Lauren include following the Dallas Mavericks, traveling, swimming, and spending time with family and friends. 

Katharine Tomancik Age Group Coach

Coach Katie has been swimming since 2006 and began working as an instructor in 2012.  She began working with MARS in 2014 as an instructor and is excited to continue working with MARS as a coach.  Katie is currently perusing a degree in nursing at UTA.

Johanna Tomancik Age Group Coach

Coach Johanna (Jo for short) has been involved in aquatics for almost 14 years - first as a competitive swimmer then as a water safety instructor and lifeguard. She is also a certified lifeguard instructor. Coach Jo helped to establish a swim team at the Grand Prairie YMCA where she coached for three years. She has recently completed a B.S.  in Biochemistry with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Houston Honors College. She hopes in the future to pursue a Ph.D. in Bioengineering from UTA. She is very excited to be coaching with MARS and hopes that she can be a positive influence in her swimmers’ lives. 

Emma Wilkerson Age Group Coach

Coach Emma is a longtime MARS swimmer, and has been a Sectionals level swimmer for our team.  Emma continued to compete with MARS as she began her college career and worked as an instructor as well.  Emma has been a valuable part of our team for near a decade! We are fortunate that she has decided to remain in the area while attending college.  Emma will bring a lot to the pool deck as a coach.

Dawn Richerson Age Group Coach

Dawn was an elite level MARS swimmer for many years who went on to swim at North Texas University and has coached at the UIL and club level.  We are excited to have her back with us.

Brooke Wallace Age Group Coach

Coach Brooke has been a swim coach for 7 years. Along with coaching, she swam competitively for 13 years. She is currently pursuing a Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management degree at the University of North Texas. 

Rachel Villalba Age Group Coach

Coach Rachel swam for Lakeside Aquatic Club from 2008- 2015, the last 2 years spent on the nationals team. She swam on varsity at Marcus High school under Coach Gillespy, qualifiying and placing at high school Districts and Regionals three years in a row. She coached the LISD middle school swim program for Marcus all four years. Rachel first began coaching her neighborhood swim team during the summer in 2009, and eventually became a swim instructor for Lakeside Aquatic Club for 2 years. She currently coaches Gold 2 and AG2 group in Grapevine and is a full time student at the University of North Texas studying Early Childhood Education with specialization in Special Education. 

Kiersten Aguinaga Age Group Coach

Coach Kiersten swam competitively for 13 years, taught swim lessons throughout high school, and coached a summer league team out of San Antonio for a couple years while in college. Kiersten earned a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from The University of Texas at San Antonio in 2013 and completed her Master's Degree in Theological Studies-Biblical Studies from Liberty University in 2016. Kiersten is currently teaching English at Arlington High School and is very excited to finally be back on the pool deck. 

Megan Howard Age Group Coach

Coach Megan joined the MARS team in 2017. She is currently attending UTA and is planning on getting a Bachelors in Economics and a minor in German. Megan is very excited to be working with your children to improve all aspects of their swimming. 

Karina Velazquez Age Group Coach

Karina swam competitively and  taught swim lessons for 4 years. She has been teaching with MARS for over a year and started coaching in May of 2018. She is currently attending University of Texas at Arlington to obtain her bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering.

Allison Pham Age Group Coach

Coach Allison has competed with MARS for 13 years.  In that time Allison has competed at Age Group and Senior Zones Championship meets, TAGS, and the 5A & 6A UIL State Championship. Allison began working us while still competing a year ago.  We are glad that she is joining us as an age group coach at TCC, and we look forward to the benefit that her experience will bring to our pool deck.

Eric Briscoe Head Age Group Coach

Eric is our Head Age Group Coach.  He holds a Bachelor's degree in Social Studies Composite with a minor in Education as well as a Master's degree in Kinesiology.  He has been a swim coach since 1993 and has coached teams at various levels including local club leagues, UIL High School Teams, and USA Swim Clubs.  He has been with MARS since 2009.
