Coach from Ghana, West Africa Visits OA

After attending a FINA officiating clinic in Miami, Kwami Kpodoh, from Ghana, West Africa, made the cross country trip to visit Orinda Aquatics.  Donnie met Kwami at the ASCA World Coaches Clinic in 2010 in Indianapolis and they have remained friends.

Kwami runs a swim school and club team in Ghana and is the country's Technical Director for swimming.  A passionate coach and swimming professional, Kwami has become a FINA Official and officiated the World Junior Championships in Dubai in 2013 and will be Doha, Qatar later this year.  Kwami is also becoming certified as an Open Water official.

He will be spending two weeks with OA and will also spend extensive time with some of the local summer league teams.  OA is very excited to have Kwami here.

Below is an article on Kwami from their local news service:

For the first time in the history of Ghana sports, a Ghanaian referee, Kwami Kpodoh, will officiate at the FINA World Junior Swimming Championships to be held in Dubai from August 26, 2013.

Kwami Kpodoh joins other officials from Africa, Asia, Americas, Europe and Oceania, who were selected by world swimming governing body FINA, to officiate at the championship's fourth edition.

President of the Ghana Swimming Association (GSA), Theophilus Wilson Edzie, said the appointment of Kwami Kpodoh highlights the country's level of development as far as swimming is concerned.

He said the experienced Kwami Kpodo secured the FINA badge in January this year after a successful participation in a course held in Abuja (Nigeria) in November 2011.

Kwami Kpodoh, a swimming coach by profession, is the Technical Director of the Ghana Swimming Association, and Technical Swimming Committee (TSC) member of African Swimming Confederation (CANA).

Kwami, who works at Lincoln Community School, also officiated in the Africa Junior Championships in Port Harcourt (Nigeria) in December 2011 and Zone 2 African Junior Swimming Championships in Akure (Nigeria) in November 2012.
