OA Alums turn into Collegiate Triathletes! Two OA alums have added new “gear” to their repertoire! Last spring, while working on her engineering degree, Allie Light (OA ’12) joined UCLA’s Triathlon Team (Spring 2014 Female Champions). Not only was it announced that Max Cruz has won the Outstanding Swimmer Award for 11 year old boys (short course) but Will Nagle was named Outstanding Swimmer for an 11 year old boy (long course). Saturday was the 6th annual NorCal Kids Triathlon held at Miramonte High School in Orinda and Orinda Aquatics' 4th year as a sponsor of this event. 300 kids aged 4 to 18 competed in the Sprint Triathlon. The event is organized to promote healthy lifestyles in children, introduce youth to a sporting event they may not have tried and to also raise monies for the Orinda Foundation which supports many events in the local community. All-Star Selection: Sr group swimmers Jolen Griffin and Justin Lammert have been selected to represent Pacific Swimming August 7-9 at the 2014 North American Challenge Cup in Veracruz, Mexico. Congratulations!

Coached by Ronnie, Mary Ashby and Talbot Jacobs competed for Orinda Aquatics at the 2014 Speedo Junior National (long course) held in Irvine, California. Ashby swam the 50 free ((27.30), 100 free (59.06), 100 back (1:05.64), and time trialed the 200 free where she earned a personal best 2:07.76. Orinda Aquatics' Senior and Collegiate swimmers made a strong showing at the recent CA/NV Sectionals Championships held in Clovis. The team finished second in the meet scoring nearly 1,300 points.

Congratulations to Caroline Lukins who has recently been announced as Columbia University's new Assistant Swim Coach. While studying to be an architect at Columbia, CABL had an exceptional swim career for the Lions. After working for a year for an architectural firm in NYC, CABL's love of swimming has returned her to the pool deck where she brings her exceptional character, sense of humor, and love of swimming to the team. After attending a FINA officiating clinic in Miami, Kwami Kpodoh, from Ghana, West Africa, made the cross country trip to visit Orinda Aquatics. Donnie met Kwami at the ASCA World Coaches Clinic in 2010 in Indianapolis and they have remained friends. Kwami runs a swim school and club team in Ghana and is the country's Technical Director for swimming.
