2023-2024 Fall/Winter Season

(UPDATED 7.19.2023)

Age up dates for Zones is different than A and AA Champs

A Champs (typically first weekend in March)

Location: Trotwood-Madison High School

Qualification standards: Participate in 3 meets for AMFY between September 1, 2023 and February 28, 2024, also swimmers must NOT have achieved 7 or more AA qualifying times

Age-up date: Age as of March 1, 2024 determines age for the meet.

The A level champs is open to any swimmers who have participated in 3 meets for AMFY during the fall/winter season and who have not achieved 7 or more AA qualifying times. We require all AMFY swimmers who have not achieved 3 or more AA qualifying times to attend at least one day of this meet. Swimmers who have between 3-6 AA cuts are welcome to participate, but are not required (at A's you can only swim events for which you do NOT have AA cut times).

This meet is prelims-finals for 11 and overs, meaning top swimmers from the 11 and over morning session may qualify for the finals meet in the evening of the same day. We want all AMFY swimmers who qualify for finals to participate. The finals is held at the same location (Trotwood Madison) as prelims.

They run three sites for prelims and finals on Saturday and Sunday. This means we will know shortly after the event is over who qualifies for finals!

AA Champs (typically second weekend in March)

Location: Miami University, Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center

Qualification standards: Achieve AA Time Standards (TO BE DETERMINED) PLUS participate in 3 meets for AMFY between September 1, 2023 and February 28, 2024. Please note, with the Zone time standards getting significantly slower in some events, there are some events where our league's AA standard is faster than the Zone standard.

Age-up Date: Age as of March 8, 2024 determines age for the meet.

The AA level champs is open to any swimmers who have achieved at least one AA qualifying time in an individual event. On some occasions we will take swimmers who have NOT qualified individually to use on relays, but this is rare. We require all AMFY swimmers who qualify for AA Champs to attend this meet and swim the events for which they qualify. This is our biggest meet of the year for the team, so we want full and enthusiastic participation from our swimmers.

This meet is prelims-finals for 11 and overs, meaning top swimmers from the 11 and over morning session may qualify for the finals meet in the evening of the same day. We want all AMFY swimmers who qualify for finals to participate. The finals is held at the same location (Miami University) as prelims.

Zone Champs (typically third weekend in March)

Location: to be determined

Qualification standards: Achieve Zone Time Standards (TO BE DETERMINED) PLUS Participate in 3 meets for AMFY between September 1, 2023 and February 28, 2024.

Age-up Date: to be determined (a swimmer/relay may be in a different age group for Zones than other meets)

The Zone level champs is open to any swimmers who have achieved at least one Zone qualifying time in an individual event. We will take swimmers who have NOT qualified individually to use on relays if our relay meets the qualifying standard. We strongly encourage AMFY swimmers who qualify for Zone Champs to attend this meet and swim the events for which they qualify. It is a big honor to qualify for this meet. While we do not make participation mandatory, keep in mind that if a swimmer on a relay team that qualifies for Zones chooses NOT to participate at Zones, it may prevent the other relay swimmers from attending as well.

New this year, if a swimmer ONLY has one event to swim on a Saturday or Sunday session, he/she may elect to do a bonus individual event that same day. This gives everyone a chance to do at least two events for one day.

There is no 8 and under category for this meet. 8 and unders can technically qualify, but they must meet 9-10 year old standards. This meet is timed finals. There are no evening finals sessions for swimmers.

PLEASE NOTE FOR RELAYS: Final determinations on who swims on a relay team may not be finalized until after AA Champs. Since the age-up date is different for Zones, the relays we swim at AA Champs could be different for Zones.

YMCA National Championships (to be determined)

Location: Greensboro, North Carolina

Qualification standards: Achieve national times, participate in 3 meets for AMFY between September 1, 2023 and February 28, 2024 and participate in AA or Zone Champs.

Age-up date: There are no age groups at this meet. A swimmer must be at least 12 years old on day one of the meet to be eligible to participate. Typically only high school aged swimmers qualify for this meet.

The YMCA National Championships is the highest level of YMCA competition. Participants must achieve a National qualifying time in an individual event. On some occasions we will take swimmers who have NOT qualified individually to use on relays.

This is a week-long meet with prelims and finals every day. It is often a crowning achievement to qualify for this meet, and is a HUGE honor to participate. While we do not require those who qualify to attend, we strongly encourage those who qualify to swim the events for which they qualify. Since this meet is during weekdays, the swimmers should make advance arrangements with schools to ensure they are properly excused from classes that week.

Participation at practice in the weeks leading up to the meet is mandatory for those who plan to attend.
