Carolyn Strunk Head Coach

Carolyn grew up in Pittsburgh, PA (an avid Steeler fan long before the 'Big Ben' era!! She swam for Montour High School and the Chartiers Valley Swim Club. After graduating from The College of Wooster in 1990, she continued coaching there for two years. She moved to Bowling Green to be the Assistant Swimming Coach for the BGSU men's and women's teams in August 1992. In August 1995, she went back to school at BGSU, earning a 2nd teaching certificate and began coaching with the Gators, currently an ASCA certified Level 4 coach. In August 1997, she was promoted to Head Coach. Carolyn is married and has two children (CJ and Maggie).

Gary Layne Senior Coach (HS Season)

An ASCA certified Level 4 coach, Gary has been with BGSC since the year round program began in the fall of 1982. He grew up in Findlay, Ohio where he began his swimming career. After being discharged from the Navy, he attended George Williams College and then returned to Northwest Ohio where his coaching career began under the tutelage of Rock Snow. Gary is married and has two children (CJ and Maggie). Parents/swimmers needing to contact Gary: The best way to reach him is via email any time of the day. 

George Leatherman Head Age Group Coach

Coach George is an American  Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) certified Level 3 coach. He spent 6 years as Head Coach of Findlay Area Swim Team where they won several Small Team Age Group State Championships, produced Age Group Zone Qualifiers, USA Sectional and Junior National Qualifiers. In his 17 years of coaching, he has had the pleasure of coaching many Age Group State Champions, National Top 16 Qualifiers, and some of his former swimmers have gone on to Olympic Trials. Along with coaching, George is also the owner of A&M Aquatics, LLC, an American Red Cross Authorized Provider for CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguard training. He also coaches his own Masters Team, Hancock Masters Swimming. George was a 3 time High School State qualifier and swam for the University of Kentucky and the University of Findlay where he also played waterpolo. His wife Sheri works for Bowling  Green State University . They have 2 daughters, Abby and Mia. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact him! 

Beth McNutt Asst. Coach - Age Group Gold

Coach Beth grew up in Fullerton, CA and graduated from San Diego State Uin 2008 with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Geography.  She decided to change career paths and is in her final year of a Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition.  Beth grew up swimming and playing water polo, and started teaching and coaching swimming when she was 15, continuing off and on over the past 15 years.  In her free-time she enjoys spending time with her husband, Brian, and her 2 dogs, hiking, and watching hockey and football.

Kari Anderson Asst. Coach

I'm from Cincinnati, OH and graduated in 2016. I am majoring in marketing within the College of Business here at BGSU. I have swam a majority of my life both summer and winter league and than for two years during high school. I will be coaching the Gold and Sooner or Later Gators group this winter. Alex Mechler Asst. Coach

Alex began his swimming career at the age of 7 for his city's summer recreational team the Mason Water Moccasins. The fun and exciting atmosphere that the team created made him quickly love the sport. Later that year he began year round swimming. He has swum for the Countryside Torpedoes and the Mason Manta Rays. As a high school athlete for Mason High School, Alex was a varsity swimmer for 4 years and qualified for the OHSAA District and State Meets. The summer before his sophomore year of high school Alex began coaching for the Mason Swim Academy. Following that summer, he began coaching with the Mason Water Moccasins. Currently, Alex is attending Bowling Green State University and is in their middle childhood education program. Over the summer he coaches for the Mason Water Moccasins as their Head Coach.

Maddy Miller Asst. Coach

My name is Maddy Miller.  This is my 16th year in the world of swimming.  I am currently a senior year at BGSU studying Middle Childhood Education, with my content areas being Language Arts and Social Studies.  I am from Powell, Ohio (near the Columbus Zoo).  I have swam for United Swim Association, the Delaware Riptide YMCA, Olentangy Liberty High school and a summer league team, the Kinsale Seadogs.  I have coached for the Seadogs and the YMCA for the past four summers. I am extremely excited to be a Gator this year, as I have swam countless swim meets here over the years.  I love every opportunity I get to work with children, as I know it will help me to be a better teacher someday.

Taylar Diver Asst. Coach

My name is Taylar Diver. I am 20 years old from Berea, Ohio and a junior at BGSU studying exercise science. I have been swimming competitively since age 6 when I joined my city's summer league team. In sixth grade I joined the club SwimStong and swam with them year round until I got to high school (Berea-Midpark High School) where I swam with them in the off season. In high school, I qualified for the OHSAA district meet all 4 years. I was a team captain and currently hold 2 school records. I began coaching the same summer league team that I swam on when I was 17 and still do that when I'm home for the summer. I have also been a lifeguard for 5 years now and currently work as one at BGSU's recreation center.

Meghan Burnard Asst. Coach
My name is Meghan Burnard.
I am a Sophomore majoring in Adolescent Young Adult Social Studies Education at Bowling Green. I am also on the bgsu swim and dive team. I am a former gator and I have coached the 8 and unders at BGSC over the summer for three years now! I am excited to coach my first winter season!
Regan McAnally Asst. Coach

Regan McAnally is a Freshman at BGSU studying Human Development and Pre-Occupational Therapy. She aspires to get a Doctorate in Occupational Therapy. Regan has swam on the Bowling Green Swim Club throughout her four years of high school. Also, she has been a lifeguard at the Pemberville Pool for 4 years and has coached the Pemberville Swim Team for 3 years. Regan loves working with kids and is so excited to participate in coaching for BGSC this winter! 

Joanna Johnson Asst. Coach

My Name is Joanna Nicole Johnson. I graduate from Shelby High School in 2011. I was a part of the girls swim team, softball, dance, choir, and band. During swim team my senior year I held the honor of being girls Captain. At that time I also starting my coaching career teaching what would be the level 1's for my YMCA. At a very early age I started teaching swim lessons and learned that I would be swimming for life. I chose BGSU for their teaching program. I got involved with the Falcon Marching Band playing the trombone and then proceeded to join the BGSU Swimming and Diving Club Team. After graduating from college, I started teaching at Fremont Ross High School and coaching with Sand Otter Swimming. In 2017, I started at Bowling Green High School teaching Algebra 1 and Geometry and most recently started with BGSC  helping with the senior group and as a volunteer coach for Bowling Green High School. I look forward to this new experience as a gator and a high school coach. I enjoy open water races, having done the 5K at Half Moon Lake. My average time is 1 hour and 21 mins. My hope is to do the 10k in the future!
