Registration Note

As you register you'll see that you will be put on a "waiting list". This does not mean classes are full. We do not have preset class times in our program as we set class times up to best fit participant needs once they register. As such, the only way our system can handle this (as we are one of the only programs in the country to do things this way) is to simply have you put on a wait list. We go in daily to look at registrants and start placing these registrants onto a tentative roster the moment they register so that they lock up a spot for themselves. We can then shut down registrations once we know a day is full. So, in short, being wait-listed means you have registered properly for the upcoming session.

VITAL No-Spectator Notice

Please note that the Columbus Academy still has a "no spectator" policy for all indoor activities on grounds. As such, no spectators will be allowed in during lesson times. As such, there are a couple options (outside of not registering) that you may exercise:

Option #1 - As we've been doing at CORE44 you may provide an in-water aide for any Private or Semi-Private PreSchool class and for School-Age Beginner 1.1, 1.2, and 2 classes. As one of lour instructors is not yet comfortable teaching in the water this will actually be required for anyone in these classes assigned to this instructor anyway. For the other instructors who are willing to get into the water for classes at this level they will do as we've done at CORE44 and remain on deck simply instructing you on how to work with your athletes on the skills they focus on each day and may get in to help when needed. Basically both you and your child will then be taking lessons.

Option #2 - For School-Age Beginner 3 and above Private Lesson classes we will allow a parent/guardian to get in the water with the youth participant to participate in the class as part of a 2 for 1 deal meaning that you're paying for the younger participant and the parent/guardian is participating for free. Due to space limitations we cannot offer this to semi-private classes for these levels as it may create too much of a skill differential difference spaced throughout the pool. Participants in these upper levels of semi-private lessons will need to take advantage of Option #3 below.

Option #3 - You allow your swimmer to participate without a spectator. Note that there will be at least 3 adult coaches/instructors on deck in the pool area at all times. There could be up to 5. All are either certified coaches of our swimming team or certified instructors of our swim school. As well, there may also be adult participants/in-water aides in the water as well so ample supervision will occur during during the course of all lessons. You would also be allowed to sit outside in the courtyard area if you remain properly masked and properly distanced from others while your participant is in class. Proper masking for everyone regardless of age is not an option on Academy grounds, inside or out. It is mandatory. As such, when you are there for our swimming lessons our good stature of contract depends upon your compliance regardless of circumstances. This is why we have a 1-strike policy as we cannot have our entire program jeopardized by the actions of a single individual.

NOTE that all swim school students/in-water aides will enter directly onto the pool deck from the outside door at the shallow end of the pool. They will be seated immediately on the left behind their lane or to the right along the length of the pool as determined safest by the instructors.

Program Guidelines & Restrictions

Do not register unless these are agreed to and can be met.

COVID-19 GUIDELINES

Because these are part of the registration process you have already agreed to these so please understand that these are not suggestions but are absolute requirements in order for us to operate more safely during this pandemic. Please become familiar with this:

1 – MASKING POLICY:

Students, instructors & spectators/in-water support adults MUST be masked entering into and exiting the facility. Spectators must be masked while watching lessons if they are on deck. No one need be masked in the water. While at CORE44 instructors may take their mask off during the course of active instruction as long as they remain 12ft or more apart from any participant or in-water aid in our classes. At Columbus Academy instructors standing on deck are required to be masked at all times but are not required to be masked in the water.

2 – SICKNESS POLICY:

Anyone showing any signs of sickness such as, but not limited to, sneezing, coughing, wheezing, running nose, shortness of breath, lethargy, high body temperature and such should not come to lessons that day. We maintain the rights to turn anyone away showing such signs of sickness.

3 – COVID-19 EXPOSURE REPORTING POLICY:

Anyone who has been exposed to someone with COVID-19 is required to notify the GCSS (specifically, your head instructor who is Steve Nye at this time) to let us know about this exposure. The exposed individual must then be tested for COVID-19 themselves and may only return once their results demonstrate a negative test and they have informed their head instructor of these results.

4 - Classes Offerings:

Classes will be limited to private lessons, only, or semi-privates. In the case of semi-privates we are doing these for same-household members and for "daily contact" individuals. What we mean by daily contact is that the two participants may not be related but are in daily contact with one another away from the pool. If you are signing up for semi-privates under this "daily contact" premise please make sure that we know the two participants name's so that we are aware of your wishes.

5 – No Touch Teaching Available And for Those Comfortable With It... Certain Instructor Are Now Available To Be In With The Students:

No-Touch Teaching means  that instructors will not be making physical contact with students except in cases of emergency. They will be teaching/instructing from the deck or from within the pool but from at least 6ft away from the participant(s).

A – For classes in which the athlete is totally self-supportive it will be just the instructor and the student. These may be private or semi-private lessons. The classes that fall into this category are our School Age Beginner 3 and above classes.

B – For classes in which the athlete is NOT self-supportive we will require that an water safe adult be in the water with the student to help support them and aid them under the directions & guidance of the instructor. Life guards and proven (high school or summer league participation proof required) swimmers under the age of 18 will be allowed as the student's assistant. The classes that fall into this category are our Parent/Tot class, all Pre-school classes and School Age Beginner 1.1, 1.2 & 2 classes.

For those who are comfortable with the arrangement starting with our April session of lessons certain instructors have agreed to be in the water with the participants as their instructor and support aide. This means that you will not need to provide an in-water aide for those classes listed in item B directly above EXCEPT for the Parent/Tot class which inherently has the parent in the water with the child. You must make special request via email upon registration that you would like to take classes under this arrangement. Not all instructors are yet ready to get into the water with the kids so if we cannot accommodate your request a full refund will be given to you.

6 – Spectators/Attendees:

At CORE 44 students are limited to 1 spectator which would include their in-water support adult if that is required. At Columbus Academy no spectators are allowed on deck or inside any part of the facility.

7 - Locker Rooms:

There will be NO locker room use for changing purposes as anyone entering the water must arrive to the pool with their suit on under their clothes and depart the same. There will be no “deck changing” (getting into or out of swimming suits on deck with a towel wrapped around you or however that could be accomplished).

8 - Bathroom Use:

Only in emergency situations can these be used during class time (not before or after). Please have your participant(s) use the bathroom before arriving to the facility. It might be a good idea to restrict their food and/or fluid intake a bit for the 2 hour time period before your class.

We have not rushed this process nor made decisions based on what is good for our "business" over what is actually best for our participants, their families, our facilities, facility staff and our instructors. As facilities open and guidelines are determined we will open up more operations. For now we will start strictly at CORE 44 Fitness Wyandotte.

Private Lessons

Private lessons (1 student) offer a great way to get accelerated instruction. Please remember that the scheduling of private lessons is superseded in priority by group lessons when time and space are limited.

Semi-Private Lessons

The classes have 2 students in one class by pre-arrangement. What this means is that you should already have another participant who will do this class with you who signs up for this exact same class. Please remember that the scheduling of semi-private lessons is superseded in priority by group lessons when time and space are limited.
