Coaching Staff
Chris McKinney Head Coach

Chris comes to the Makos program from the Springfield YMCA (SPY) team. Chris began swimming at the age of six for a local summer team in Springfield, and the next year joined the Springfield Y until he was 16. He also swam for Shawnee High School until his graduation in 1990. After high school, Chris joined the United States Navy and served in both Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He is a proud veteran whose swimming background stuck with him as he was assigned designated crew for lifeboat deployment. Thank you for your service, Chris!

After returning from his service, Chris began coaching and states that new opportunity was, “Life changing to say the least!” Chris has experience coaching all ages and abilities in club, YMCA, high school, collegiate level and even has produced Olympic Trail qualifiers! Chris believes the best part about being a swim coach is seeing the reaction and smiles when a goal is achieved.

Time outside the pool is spent with family and motorsports- anything with a motor and the ability to go fast is a passion!

Coach Chris is looking forward to working with the swimmers, coaches and parents to make the Makos program the best it can be!

Natasha Wahl Assistant Coach

Natasha is excited to bring her years of competitive swimming experience to the Makos program. Natasha began her swimming career at the age of six with the Oakwood Dolphins summer league and continued swimming competitively with Kettering YMCA (KEY) until her high school senior year, moving to Springfield YMCA (SPY).

Natasha grew up in Oakwood, Ohio and graduated from Oakwood High School in 2011. During her high school years, Natasha was a proud member of Oakwood High School Championship Team of the Southwest Buckeye League from 2008-2011. She also qualified each season for High School DII District and State Swim Championships as an individual in 50yd and 100yd Free. She was a four-year Varsity Letter Swimmer, plus set High School records for 50yd & 100yd Free and 100yd Butterfly; plus, was a member of 200yd & 400yd Free Relays. In 2011, Natasha received the Southwest Ohio High School Classic Swim Meet’s Scholarship granted to outstanding seniors who exemplify the highest standards in sportsmanship, academic achievement, community service, and outstanding leadership. She qualified for Short Course and Long Course YMCA Nationals Championships with her respective YMCA teams. One of her most memorable moment was competing in 2011 Short Course Y National Championship’s “B” Final Heat on the SPY 200yd Free Relay seeded 16th from prelims. Then, zooming from outside lane, Natasha and her fellow SPY Teammates (Rachael Lewis, Allison Lohnes, and Ally Mayhew) won the “B” Final Heat and placed 9th overall.

As a freshman in college, Natasha continued her swimming career at Ball State University. She transferred to Wright Sate University the following year where she graduated in 2017 with a B.S. in Organizational Leadership with a minor in Emergency Management. She is currently working towards her Master's Certificate in Sport Management at Miami University.

While attending WSU, Natasha became a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and also had some great internship opportunities. In 2015, she spent a magical time as a Guest Services Intern at Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. She was also an intern in the Wright State Athletic Marketing Department for the 2016-’17 season. While she is off the pool deck, Natasha enjoys watching movies with her cats Frank & Dee, and also finding the best taco resturants! Although she misses swimming competitively, Natasha is eager to bring her knowledge of swimming to beginning and experienced Makos swimmers!
