While the USA Swimming Rule books is a few hundred pages, the technical rules (rules pertaining to how strokes, turns and starts should be performed) are only six pages long. The pages are found near the beginning of the rule book, and you can tell the technical rules by looking for the pages that are blue. For parents, officials and coaches this is really considered the meat and potatoes of the rule book. Reading and understanding these rules is a great way to understand what officials are looking for when viewing races and what coaches are looking for in practice.
