High Performance

Girls 14 and Boys 15 and over are eligible to be invited into this squad. The Mississauga Aquatic Club’s High-Performance Swim Program is for swimmers to compete at the highest levels, National, International, or have the ability to achieve these levels.

Training is structured around the Train to Compete and Compete to Win area of Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD). This is the stage where a swimmer is maximizing his engine. Swimmers are expected to show total commitment in reaching their full potential. The goal of the program is to provide the coaching, tools, education, and support that will allow our athletes to evolve into University and International highperformance swimmers. The expected attendance of the program is +90%.

This group, along with the other performance groups, has a broad focus on competing at the National level with major competitions that include the Canadian Championships, Canadian Junior Championships, and Eastern Canadian Championships.

PHYSIOLOGIST

Rob Rupf

Rob is an experienced national team physiologist and he works specifically with identifying training adaptations and fatigue.  Blood lactate testing is conducted every 6-7 weeks to monitor changes in fitness and providing specific aerobic training speeds for the athletes.  Wellness questionnaires are utilised each morning before workout.  Over time this provides a baseline for the athletes’ fitness vs their fatigue.  At the end of each day Rob requires the athletes to provide feedback on their perceived exertion.  Rob is currently doing his PHD.
