Bend Swim Club – Return to Swim Policy & Procedures

BSC Health and Safety Policy

In an effort to protect all members of the BSC and the Bend community as a whole, BSC coaches will be taking regular attendance for each swimmer in addition to asking if they have experienced the following symptoms:

  1. Have you had a worsening cough?
  2. Have you had a fever?
  3. Have you had shortness of breath or difficulty breathing?
  4. Runny nose or congestion?
  5. Muscle aches or body aches?
  6. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea?
  7. New loss of taste or sense of smell?
  8. Sore throat?
  9. Have you been in close contact with anyone with these symptoms or anyone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past 14 days?

If any symptoms, including fever have been resolved for at least 72 hours without medication, or at least 14 days after contact with a person with cough, fever, or diagnosed with COVID-19.

Any employee who reports or demonstrates symptoms of COVID-19 will be required to stay home from work until further notice. The BSC coaching staff and BOD will work with the proper authorities (including the Oregon Department of Health) to determine when that employee may return to work safely and if any other person(s) are to stay home. If an employee reports that they have tested positive for COVID-19, the BSC coaching staff and BOD will work with the ODH to determine when that employee will be allowed to return to work.

After speaking with officials from the Oregon Department of Health, we have made the following requirements for ALL SWIMMERS AND PARENTS. These rules are made so that in case of another COVID-19 exposure by a swimmer, parent, or coach, we can mitigate the risk to those around that individual as well as mitigate the need to disrupt the group(s) training schedule.

  1. All swimmers are asked to wear a mask to and from the pool and while they wait on deck to start practice.
  2. All swimmers and parents should adhere to the 6-foot social distancing recommendation while waiting to enter the facility, waiting to get into the pool, and while waiting for or observing practice inside the facility.
  3. All swimmers and parents MUST wipe down any chair they use to sit on, store their gear, etc... Disinfectant wipes are placed around each pool.

We do realize that these requirements are stricter than current state guidelines, however, after speaking with health department officials, it became apparent that they evaluate any possible exposure to COVID-19 by the presence of a mask, social distance, and time of exposure. By doing our best to follow these guidelines, we hope to keep everyone safe and healthy and also avoid another large scale shutdown.

Outdoor Pool Procedure:

  • ❖  Swimmers will be swimming 2 per lane and starting at opposite ends of the pool from each other.

  • ❖  Swimmers will be assigned a practice group/lane by the coaches. There will be no switching lanes or groups allowed unless discussed with Coach Shane or Coach Christopher.
