About Capital Swimming

Capital Swimming is a year-round, non-profit, youth swim team.  Lead by Head Coach Lauren Thies, Capital Swimming strives to provide competitive swimming to the entire Salem community.  Lauren’s wealth of personal experience as a national level swimmer is the foundation of Capital Swimming’s solid plan for the future of swimming in Salem.  Backed by a business minded volunteer parent board, Capital Swimming provides opportunities to our children to activity participate in swimming while keeping the costs to participate as low as possible.

Swimming creates active, engaged, healthy, and happy children.  In addition, participating in this type of sport encourages positive interaction with other dedicated athletes in a small group setting.  Our community is seeing a rise in unwanted activities and Capital Swimming wants to give our youth a productive and healthy alternative.

The City of Salem does not have a Parks and Recreation department and does not provide recreational sports.  In addition, the City of Salem has no City, County, or School-District owned or operating pools. For that reason, Capital Swimming started its activities in alliance with the Kroc center to provide the Salem youth the opportunity to develop themselves in a safe environment.

Helping children to develop their personal character through the sport is the primary focus of our coaching staff. Our coaching staff focuses on defining achievable goals encouraging the kids to reach their full potential. Capital Swimming is committed to developing well-rounded athletes and young adults.

Capital Swimming is committed and in compliance with USA Swimming Safe Sport initiative to provide a safe environment for the kids to have fun and develop themselves.

Capital Swimming strives to be a community swim team and through the benefits of scholarship opportunities, provides access to many in our community that could otherwise not afford it. We are also focused on developing the individual and building our team into Salem’s elite swim team servicing our entire community.
