Tornadoes Locker Room Monitor

We recently received a letter from USA Swimming noting a change in locker room monitoring policy language from “recommended best practice” to “required”  in compliance with the Minor Athlete Abuse Protection Policy.  Please read the letter to USA swim teams by clicking on the following link:

The full MAAPP policy is below as well as a document covering a few questions on application to locker rooms. The full document is also available with all policy reference documents in the back of locker room binder parents use to sign-in.

Our goal is to eventually have a male and female volunteer for each time slot.  However, it is best to have two adults present at all times even if they are both male or both female. If you want to volunteer and a slot is already full you can sign up to volunteer as the second person in either gender slot.  When you volunteer make sure to sign in on the volunteer sign-in found in the green notebook on our team locker.

If you are a member of the YMCA follow these instructions to sign up for a shift:

  • Log in to the team website, preferably from a desktop computer as handheld devices do not always display the full sign-up page.
  • Select the Parent Club Tab.
  • Scroll down to Locker Room Monitor job alphabetically.
  • Continue scrolling until you find the correct shift 4:15-5:00, 5:00-5:45, 6:20-6:50, 7:15-7:45, or Saturday.
  • Check to make sure that the job dates match the proper month.
  • Select the date you want to volunteer by selecting the corresponding number line.
  • If you are voluteering for the 7:15-7:45 shift, confirm that it is a "regular practice" day for F5 on the team calendar or email schedule.  If F5 practice is listed as "early" then this shift is not needed.
  • If you are completing a Saturday morning shift, indicate whether you will be covering 8:00-9:00 or 10:15-11:15 in the pop-up contact box.  Saturdays are numbered by week of the month.  Slot one is for the first Saturday of the month.  This only applies for when we do not have meets and are holding practice.
  • After your shift is selected scroll down and select save.
  • Locker room monitoring is an easy and helpful way to fulfill your parent volunteer hours.
  • To view your volunteer hours account balance go to your "My Account."  Under Billing select "Invoices and Payments." Select the second tab labeled "Service Hours" to view your volunteer time owed and jobs completed.

If you are not a YMCA member please print and fill out the YMCA volunteer packet and turn it in to the team mail box in the lobby of the YMCA. The YMCA will process the packet and send you a link for online training modules.  You must access this link within 7-14 days or it will expire.  Here you can complete 4 modules created by Safe Sport.  Turn in your cerificates to the team mailbox in the lobby and record your Locker Room Monitor online education hours on the parent club page to receive service hours credit. When your online training is complete you are ready to being volunteering.  The green locker room monitor notebook has all basic instructions to guide you as well as all policies.
