Coaching Staff
Morgan Dodge Co-Head Coach

Coach Morgan Dodge joined the FAST coaching staff in September 2013. Morgan is the Head Coach of the Senior Program, the Director of Operations, and the Lead coach for FAST’s National group.

Since joining the FAST coaching staff, Morgan coached several Ozark Champions, and helped a multitude athletes qualify for Zones, Sectionals and Junior National meets. He also played a pivotal role in leading the Flyers to their first overall victory at the Region VIII Spring Sectional Championships in 2019. Morgan has coached athletes to become Scholastic All-Americans and to Nationally Reportable Top 16 times. Morgan was selected to represent Ozark at the 14&U Zone Championship meet in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2018.

Prior to joining FAST, Morgan worked for Rockwood Swim Club where he was a lead group coach in both the age group and senior program where he supervised over 100 athletes each season. While at Rockwood, Morgan’s athletes were all over the team record books and he coached Individual Ozard Record holders and broke several Ozark Relay records.

Morgan has a degree in Psychology from Maryville University in St. Louis where he is an assistant coach with their men’s and women’s swimming programs.

Diana Rosen Co-Head Coach

Coach Diana Rosen began coaching for FAST in late 2016, and was tasked with starting  the FAST- Pirates site, located at Pattonville High School.  As the Head Coach in charge of the Pattonville site, she directly oversees all groups at that location.  Coach Diana is the lead coach of the Sectional Development and Shooting Stars groups.  Coach Diana is also the Director of Personnel for FAST.

Coach Diana is an ASCA level 2 certified coach who began her coaching career working primarily with eight and under swimmers.  Through her more than 20 years of club coaching she has coached every age and ability level, coaching several swimmers to Age group Zones, Sectionals, NCSA meets as well as collegiate swimming. With a strong focus on proper technique,

Coach Diana strives to instill a lifelong love of the sport.  Diana has been married for over 35 years and has 3 children and 3 grandchildren.

Derek Shipp Co-Head Coach

Derek Shipp has been an active USA Swimming coach since 1990.  He has coached swimmers on four teams, in three different zones to ASCA achievement levels in his 28-year career.  He feels fortunate to have been a part of two different gold-medal clubs (SwimAtlanta 1990-1994 and the Kansas City Blazers 2001-2012).  Derek cultivated and shared his expertise by being active in LSC and Zone governance for the last 20 years.  He is an ASCA Certified Level 3 age group coach and received the Counsilman Creative Coaching Award at the 2009 ASCA World Clinic.  

While Derek has coached all levels of swimmer from beginners to Masters, he has spent most of his career developing 9-12 year-olds for success as senior swimmers.  By emphasizing technique, kicking and fun he feels like his swimmers have unlimited potential to succeed when they get to the part of the sport where they can really achieve great results.  Derek is currently the Co-Head Coach of Flyers Aquatic Swim Team in charge of the Age Group Division and Director of Club Development.

He is a graduate of the University of Georgia where he swam for four years and finished as team captain.  He has been married to his wife Kristen since 1994 and they have four children and one grandchild. 

Jim Halliburton Assistant Coach

Coach Halliburton has a long and impressive swimming background both as a competitive swimmer himself and as a head coach. Before coming to FAST in August 2011, Coach Halliburton served as Coordinator of Aquatics/Head Coach for the Rockwood School District for 30 years.  In addition, Coach Halliburton has served as the head swim coach for Saint Louis University since 2000 and as head swim coach for the Missouri Athletic Club since 1999 and for FAST from 2012-17.

Coach Halliburton turned around swim programs at the Rockwood Swim Club, Marquette High School and the Missouri Athletic Club Summer League. His longest tenure was as the head coach of the Rockwood Swim Club, where from 1985 to 2006 he took a program with 38 swimmers and turned it into a national-champion squad comprised of 500 swimmers. Coach Halliburton's Marquette team won three state championships in his last four seasons. In just two seasons with the MAC Summer League team, Halliburton took a team that did not win a meet in 1999 to a conference championship in 2001. He was named U.S. National Team Coach three times and Region VIII Coach of the Year seven times. After his seventh award, he helped lead FAST to their first overall team victory at the Region VIII Spring Sectional Championships in 2019.

Coach Halliburton has coached two world-record holders and 20 swimmers in the Olympic Trials. Two of his swimmers have competed in the Olympic Games. More than 50 swimmers training under him have ranked in the top 16 in the United States in their age group, and eight of them were ranked No. 1.

As a competitor, he was a member of the United States National Team from 1978 to 1982 and was team captain in his final season with the squad. A former American record holder, he was twice ranked No. 1 in the world in the 100-meter butterfly. At Indiana University, he was a seven-time Big Ten champion and broke Mark Spitz's Big Ten record in the 100 fly. He was also a four-time NCAA All-American. Coach Halliburton continues to compete in the pool, most recently turning in 11 record-breaking gold-medal performances at the St. Louis Senior Olympics in 2009. 

Coach Halliburton graduated from Indiana with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education in 1982. He is a 1977 graduate of Ladue High School in St. Louis. He and his wife, Joanne, have two children, Kaleigh and T.J.

Giordan Harris Assistant Coach

Coach Giordan joined the FAST coaching staff in August of 2018 leading the Sectional group.

Giordan is from Ebeye, Marshall Islands. He has spent his swim career representing his home country in numerous international competitions, including the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympic Games. Giordan attended Iowa Lakes Community College for two years, finishing his NJCAA career as a 2x All American, record holder, and team captain. He then transferred to Maryville University majoring in Cyber security, and finished his collegiate career as team captain.

Giordan began his coaching career as a volunteer coach in the Marshall Islands, helping with different age groups. Before moving to St Louis, Giordan was a volunteer coach at Lincoln College, in Lincoln IL. While in St Louis, he has coached a summer league team at the Elks Lodge #9 for two years, coaching two conference champions, as well as a multiple conference record holder. Giordan also worked with Pattonville School District teaching kids how to swim, and he currently volunteer coaches at Maryville University
Mackenzie Jones Assistant Coach

Mackenzie Jones joined the FAST coaches in January 2017 assisting Coach Diana with the FAST - Pirates.  She is now the lead group coach for the Senior Select group.

Mackenzie is a recent graduate of Maryville University.  In 2018, she received her Bachelor of Health Science degree, with a minor in psychology.  She also works as a medical assistant at a local doctor's office.  During her time at Maryville, Mackenzie was on the swim team, and finished her competitive swimming career with 4 top ten collegiate conference finishes in the 100 and 200 breaststroke.

 Mackenzie began coaching as a volunteer in her hometown of Hudsonville, Michigan at age 13.  Additionally, she was the head coach of the Elk's Lodge #9 summer team for 3 years. 

 
Karen Kearney Assistant Coach
 

Coach Karen joined the FAST coaching staff in 2003.  She is co-lead coach of the Space Squad group and assists with Future Flyers.  Coach Karen is a valued member of our coaching staff for her wealth of knowledge, 25+ years experience and positive outlook.

Karen Lebeau Assistant Coach

Karen has been on the FAST coaching staff since the spring of 2012 and brings a wealth of knowledge to both the lessons and the swim team programs. 

Karen coached both boys and girls high school swimming at Kempner High School in Sugarland, Texas from 1987-1992. She has also coached summer league swimming from 1985-1996. When she moved to Euless, Texas in 1996 she coached summer league from 1997-1998. Karen has been teaching lessons throughout her entire coaching and swimming career.

Karen has a son in Senior.

Coach Karen is the lead group coach for the Senior group in south county and assists in the age group program.

Tim Day Assistant Coach

Coach Tim joined the FAST coaching staff in 2018.  He is an assistant coach with the Senior Group.  

Mark Gowler Assistant Coach
Mark Gowler started at FAST in January, 2014. He coached at the U.City Swim Club from 1988-1998 and has been the master's swim coach at the MId-
County YMCA since 1995.  Coach Mark wrestled for 4 years in high school and played tennis for 4 years in college and did 25 years of triathlon which
included an age group national championship in 2003. He also raced bikes a lot from 2001-2013.

Katie Grogan Assistant Coach

  Coach Katie Grogan originally joined the FAST coaching staff in May of 2013.  She returned in the fall of 2015 after taking some time off for a career change.

Coach Katie graduated from Webster University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Communications, with an emphasis in graphic design/photography. She is also earned a Master of Arts from Southeast Missouri State in Education Administration.

A native of St. Louis, Coach Katie grew up swimming for Sugar Creek and MOST as well as at Lutheran South and Webster University.  Katie later decided to explore other states and has taught Art in Winston-Salem, N.C. and in Gainesville, Fla. She was also an assistant coach for the Star Aquatics Swim Team in Winston-Salem and an age group coach for the Gator Swim Club in Gainesville. Katie was also the head coach at Lutheran South High School for a couple of years and used to teach full time for Special School District.

Teresa McDowell Assistant Coach

Coach Teresa began coaching for FAST in September of 2018 as the lead coach of Space Squad and co lead coach of Senior 1.

She started swimming on a YMCA team in Memphis when at the age of 8. She swam as an age group swimmer for 8 years. They did not have high school or college swimming for women where she went to school. Coach Teresa started a swim team at the Edward Jones YMCA and served as head coach for 8 years. She has been a USMS Master swimmer for the past 18 years and competes in both local and national competitions.

Coach Teresa has three sons and three grandchildren who live in the St Louis area. Coach Teresa has a love of swimming and is excited about coaching for FAST.

Sam Stapleton Assistant Coach

Coach Sam joined the FAST coaching staff in April 2018. He primarily works with the National group, while also assisting with the Sectional, Senior Select, and Future Flyers groups.

Sam started his time with FAST by competing for the team from 2009-2014 as a Sectional and Junior National qualifier. He was the 2013 MSHSAA State Champion in the 100y freestyle, which led him to compete at the collegiate level for Lindenwood University.

Sam began his coaching career as an assistant for Crestwood (Whitecliff) from 2016-2017, and from there he went on to serve as head coach of Ursuline Academy from 2017-2019. During his time at UA, he led the team to two of their most successful seasons in school history, breaking multiple school records. At the State level, the Bears qualified the highest amount of athletes in team history, finished top 16 overall for the first time and saw a swimmer break the MSHSAA Class 1 State record in the 500 free. At FAST, he has coached swimmers to new Zones and Futures cuts, and he was a part of FAST's first overall team victory at the 2019 Region VIII Spring Sectional Championships.

Mike Tso Assistant Coach

Mike Tso joined the FAST coaching staff in January 2017 as part of the opening of the FAST-Pirates site at Pattonville High School. 

Coach Mike assists with the senior groups and runs the dry land program at Pattonville.

Vera Allman Assistant Coach

Coach Vera began coaching for FAST in June of 2018, as the lead coach for both Future Flyers and Rocketeers, as well as assisting with Space Squad.

Vera has a life long love of swimming, and began swimming competitively at 9 years old. She swam for Carthage College, specializing in 100 and 200 Breaststroke and 400 IM.

A recent graduate with a degree in psychology, Vera is currently pursuing her masters degree in occupational therapy at Washington University.  She is excited to be coaching with FAST! 

Tony Hernandez Assistant Coach

Rob Laux Assistant Coach
Coach Rob joined the FAST coaching staff in 2012.  Prior to joining the FAST coaching staff, Rob coached at Rockwood Swim Club from 1998-2012. During his time at Rockwood he created and developed the National Prep group and assisted with the National Group. Before coaching at Rockwood, he was the head coach at Kirkwood Webster YMCA (KWBY) from 1994-1998. Rob has also coached at Clayton High School (2004-2006 and 2012-2014), Vianney High School (1993), Truman State University (1990-1991), San Luis Hills (1987) and Sunset Hills Swim Team (1988-1989, 1991-1995 and 1998).
 
Coach Rob coached several Sectional Qualifiers, MO High School State Champions and Junior National Qualifiers. He also assisted with the coaching of Senior National and Olympic Trial swimmers.
Coach Rob will assist as needed with any group throughout the program.
