Seabaugh Earns MVP Honors to Lead RCA Boys at MSHSAA State Champs

RCA Boys represented three of the local high schools at the recent MSHSAA Class 1 State Championship meet in St. Peters, MO on November 9-10, 2018.

Daniel Seabaugh set the tone for his Cape Central High School teammates in the opening 200 Medley relay event as he led off the relay with a blistering 22.92 backstroke leg to give his team the lead. His relay team would go on to finish 3rd in the event with a season best time, but the performance announced to the Class 1 field that the defending champs were on a mission to claim the title yet again.  The Tigers would accomplish that goal for the third consecutive year by coming out on top in a very tight battle with Glendale High School that would not be settled until the final event of the meet.  Seabaugh led the way with two individual event wins in the 200 Free (1:39.14) and 500 Free (4:29.83), both wins in thrilling battles with the defending champ (Evan Holt, Kearney High School) that came down to the touch. His winning times were both Class 1 State Records and he earned Co-MVP honors for his efforts!

Seabaugh may have led the way for the Tigers in their quest for the team title, but he was not alone.  RCA and Cape Central teammates Jacob Bening, Hyrum Dickson, Jack Maxton, Ben Steelman, and Truman Vines would also score for the Tigers.  Bening defended his state title in the 100 Back with a time of 50.89 and finished 2nd in the 100 Free in 46.46. He was also a member of the winning 200 Free and 400 Free relays.  Dickson joined him on those two winning relays and finished 3rd in the 50 Free.  Vines was a member of all three Tiger relays and finished 10th in the 100 Free.  Maxton finished 6th in the 100 Fly and was a member of the Medley Relay that finished 3rd and the winning 400 Free Relay.  Steelman swam the Breaststroke leg of the Medley relay.  Congratulations to Coach Powell, Coach Sierman, and all of the Cape Central Tigers on the 3-peat!

Nicholas Hux led the growing RCA contingent representing Notre Dame High School.  Hux finished 8th in the 100 Free,12th in the 200 Free, and anchored the school record setting 400 Free Relay that would go on to finish 10th!  RCA swimmers Noel Keran (200 Free, 500 Free) and Nick Landewe (200 IM, 100 Back) earned their first state meet swims and were also a part of the 400 Free Relay.  These scoring efforts led to a team finish of 22nd (up from 34th in 2017) and another huge step forward at that state level. Congratulations to Coach Rau, Coach Graves and all of the Notre Dame Bulldogs on a great season!

Brayden Walters was the lone RCA representative for Jackson High School.  The freshman had a strong first season and capped it off by finishing 25th in the 100 Back and was a member of the 200 Medley and 200 Free relay teams.
