RCA swimmers headed to our swim neighbors in Carbondale for the second long course meet of the 2019 season on April 26-28.  It was a very successful meet and was easy to see how the swimmers are getting more accustomed to long course racing.  The 11-12 girls age group was rockin' on record-breakin'!  Addison Ringwald set a new team 11-12 girls standard for the 1500m free with a time of 21:20.54, chopping off almost a minute from her time a few weeks earlier at the RCA meet.  Ava Walters nabbed three 11-12 girls records with her efforts in the 50 and 100 back (AA times) and the 50 fly.  Congratulations, ladies!
Other exciting news are the three new Ozark Long Course Championship qualifiers: Martina Ressel (10&under girls 100 breast), Kent Sheridan (11-12 boys 50 back), and Wade LaValle (11-12 boys 50 free and 200 free).  These swimmers are now eligible to compete in Edwardsville at the end of July and are close in other events as well.  Congratulations on earning your spots on the championship team, guys!
There were standout swimmers in each training group on the team as well.  In Bronze 1, the Swimmer of the Meet was Ben Purcell, who got 100% best times.  He successfully completed three new long course events and earned a B time in the 10&under boys 50 back.  In Bronze 2, Martina Ressel was given Swimmer of the Meet honors.  Not only did she earn her first ever BB time to qualify for champs, but she also did her first long course 200 free, broke 1:00 in the 50 back, and dropped 10 seconds in the 50 free.  Wow!  Silver Swimmer of the Meet went to Roman Underwood.  Coach Joe was very pleased with Roman's consistency through each event of the meet, highlighted by the 100 fly and the addition of the 10&under boys 100 back to Roman's long course champs lineup.  The Gold group had joint Swimmers of the Meet: Kent Sheridan and Wade LaValle.  Both gentlemen secured spots at long course champs; both dropped time in all events but one; both had been shooting for those BB times and went after them with all they had.  Congrats, boys!  The Senior Swimmer of the Meet was Noah Underwood.  Noah added two tough events to his long course champs lineup: the 13-14 boys 1500 free and 200 fly.  His freestyle confidence and pacing improved, and he posted best times in all but one event.  Well done, Swimmers of the Meet!
Coach Joe and Coach Lindsay enjoyed watching the RCA swimmers work hard and perform well.  There were many other great swims from the team this weekend, but it was very impressive to see the good sportsmanship displayed by our swimmers.  Win or lose, many RCA kids were reaching across the lane lines to shake hands with competitors.  THAT'S what really turns the heads of coaches, parents, and swimmers!
