Rockwood Swim Club is pleased to provide its many accomplished coaches for the development of swimmers at every age group and talent level.  Our coaching staff is considered one of the finest in the country, with many, many years of coaching tenure represented across all groups.  

All of RSCA’s coaches excel in leadership, education and certification.

Many of our coaches have competed and/or coached at the national level - including at the NCAA Division I and Division II levels, and are proactive members of both USA Swimming and the American Swimming Coaches Association.

COACHING STAFF:


TODD GABEL, Head Coach and Aquatics Director (gabeltodd@prcommunityed.org)
Todd is the Aquatics Director for Community Education and supervises all Rockwood Swim Club and SwimAmerica programs for the school district. Todd has been with Rockwood Swim Club for over 30 years--10 years as an athlete and 20+ years as a coach.  He has coached many of the groups within the club over the years and is currently the Head Coach of the Swim Club.  Todd also serves as the Business Secretary and handles bookkeeping for the club.  Todd is in his 14th year as Head Coach of Boys Swimming and in his 11th year as Head Coach of Girls Swimming at Lafayette High School.  

Todd served as Age Group Chairman of Ozark Swimming from 1997 to 2001.  He has also served as Head Coach of the Ozark All-Star team over the years.  Todd was named Age Group Coach of the Year in 1998 and 2000.

As a swimmer, Todd was the first swimmer to represent Rockwood Swim Club at the Region VIII Swim Meet (Sectionals). Todd attended and swam at Southwest Missouri University.

Todd is a certified instructor of CPR, First Aid, and Life Guarding.  He is married to Connie and has three children, Dalton, Davis, and Annika.



MARY LISTON, National Team Coach (listonmary@prcommunityed.org)

Mary began her coaching career in 1977 at the age group level with Mid-County YMCA.  After stints at Clayton Shaw Park and Parkway Swim Club, she joined Rockwood Swim Club in 1996 and coached both the Senior and National groups. From 1985 to 1995, Coach Liston also handled the Men’s Swim Team at UM-St.Louis. Currently, she works solely with National Group and handles all travel for the swim club.  Mary has Level 4 ASCA certification and has served on the Senior Swimming Committee for USA Swimming since 2002.  She has coached Regional Select Sprint Camp with Dr. Dave Salo, National Select Camp in Colorado Springs, and recently served as Manager for Southern Zone Camp in 2007 and 2008.  Currently, Mary is the Club Development Representative for the Ozark LSC.  Her career in St. Louis spans over 30 years, during which time she has received numerous awards such as Age Group Coach of the Year, Region VIII Coach of the Year, and the Coaching Award of Excellence from CSCAA and ASCA. 

Mary has the responsibility of assisting the college-bound swimmers in their search for the right match of a swimming college. Mary is a graduate of the University of Southern California with a degree in Sociology and Psychology. She stays up-to-date in the sport as an active member of USA Swimming and American Swim Coaches Association.   Mary has a daughter, Shannon.



SEAN HARRISON, National Prep Group Coach (harrisonsean@prcommunityed.org)

Sean Harrison is a St. Louis native who began swimming when he was 9 years old.  Sean started out at the pre-competitive South City YMCA swim team and eventually swam for the Kirkwood-Webster YMCA team and Spirit of St. Louis Swimming.  Sean began coaching the Spirit Swim Team while in high school and worked with the 6-9 year old Developmental Group.  While attending Lindbergh High School, Sean played water polo and swam all 4 years.  He qualified for the state championships all 4 years and had Sectional cuts in several events. 

After high school, Sean attended St. Louis Community College at Meramec for 2 years where he earned his Associate degree.  While at Meramec, Sean coached for the Flyers Aquatic Swim Team for 2 years as well as the Sunset Hills swim team during the Summer season..  Sean then transferred to the University of South Florida in Tampa to pursue a degree in History.  While in Tampa, Sean coached for the New Tampa YMCA with former Olympic swimmer Mitzi Kremer.  Sean became the Head Age Group Coach for TNTY and coached multiple Junior Olympic qualifiers.  While attending USF, Sean played and helped coach the water polo club.  In addition, he was the assistant coach of the Freedom High School swim team. 

Sean earned his Bachelor’s degree in History in 2007 and began teaching 6th Grade Geography in Tampa.  Sean now lives in St. Louis with Michelle, his wife who also coached with Rockwood.  Sean and Michelle have two children, Christian and Elliana.



STEPHEN SCHRANCK, Senior/Senior Prep North Group Coach (schranckstephen@prcommunityed.org)

Stephen Schranck grew up in Alton, IL, swimming for the Tri City Area YMCA. He swam at YMCA Nationals with his best finish being 4th in the 200 Breast in 2005. He went on to swim at Carthage College in Kenosha, WI from 2005-2009 where he qualified for the NCAA D-III championships all 4 years of school and again his highest finish being 4th in the 200 breast in 2007. While in college, he spent the summers swimming for HEAT in St. Louis and was the Summer Sectional Champion in the 200 Breast in both 2006 and 2007.

After graduating in 2009 with a degree in Accounting, Stephen originally began working at Edward Jones Investments. At this time he got his start in coaching with the Edwardsville YMCA Breakers from 2010-2012 where he coached numerous YMCA state champions, YMCA national finalists, Ozark champions, and Central Zone qualifiers.

He took a brief break from coaching, but reconnected with Coach Mary Liston in 2014 and jumped at the opportunity to get back into coaching with Rockwood! He originally worked as an assistant with the National group and now is very excited to be leading the Senior and Senior Prep North groups.

Stephen currently lives in St. Louis with his wife Jacki and their daughter JoJo.



KRISTEN CHALFANT, Gold and Silver North Group Coach (chalfantkristen@prcommuniyted.org)
Hi! I’m Kristen Chalfant, and am so excited to be the head coach of Rockwood’s Silver North group. Originally from Wichita, KS, I started swimming year-round at the age of 12 for the Wichita Swim Club. After a successful high school swimming career, I had the privilege of swimming 4 years at the University of Kansas - Rock Chalk Jayhawk! During my final semester in Lawrence, I coached age group for the Lawrence Aquahawks before moving back to Wichita, where I had a short tenure coaching at Wichita Swim Club while pursuing my Masters of Sport Administration degree at Wichita State University.

My family and I moved to St. Louis in 2011, and joined Rockwood Swim Club for the 2017-2018 season. When I’m not coaching or working in marketing, I enjoy conversations with my girls, Zoe and Izy, running, cooking, and spending time with my dog, Penelope.



SHAWNA BRONSON, Bronze North Group Coach/Pre-Competitive Coach (bronsonshawna@prcommuniyted.org)

Shawna has been the Bronze Head Coach for several years and served as an assistant for the group for many years prior.  Shawna began coaching 10 years ago in New Mexico at the swim club level and was an Assistant Coach at the high school level.  

Shawna began swimming as a young child, participating in the YMCA program in Billings, Montana, for several years.  After the 1976 Olympics, she decided that she wanted to be a gymnast.  Shawna competed in gymnastics through her high school years, leaving little time for swimming.  When her own children began swimming, Shawna got involved in the sport again and subsequently got involved in coaching the sport. Shawna is married and has 2 children, Jared and Morgan.



LAURA PASKOFF, South Groups Coach (paskofflaura@prcommunityed.org)

Hello! My name is Laura Paskoff. I am the head coach of the Silver, Senior Prep, and Bronze south groups. I am a veteran of Rockwood Swim Club. I joined the team with Swim America at the age of 5 and eventually earned my way to our National Group at the start of my freshman year of high school at Lafayette. I represented both Lafayette and Rockwood in high school, training and competing year round all four years of high school. Upon high school graduation I went off to swim at Illinois State University (Go Redbirds!), an NCAA Division I program in Normal, Illinois where I studied elementary education. In my four years at ISU, I was grateful to earn my degree and successfully complete four years as a student-athlete.

Since graduation, I have found my my way back home to St. Louis and with Rockwood. I work full time as a middle school language arts teacher in the Hazelwood School District. My heart is with the kiddos and I am so passionate about these two teaching roles. When I am not wearing my teacher/coach hat, I enjoy being active, reading, and watching baseball (Go Cardinals!).


BRAD MORRISON, Assitant Group Coach, National
Brad grew up in the Kansas City area where he swam for the Kansas City Blazers Swim Club.  Brad was on both the Junior and Senior National Team while with the Blazers, and was a member of a 4-time State Championship Team.  Brad attended the University of Missouri where he received a degree in Marketing.  While at Mizzou, Brad qualified Top 16 at Big 12s all four years of his collegiate swimming career. 

Brad is currently in his 13th year assisting Mary Liston with National.  Prior to joining the Rockwood coaching staff, Brad coached 4 years for a summer league swim team in the Kansas City area.   Brad and his wife, Natalie, have two children Kylie and Colin.

DAN BOSTELMANN, Assistant Group Coach, National
Dan is joining us again as a coach with the Natoinal Group. We are so happy to have the Sherriff back on deck! Dan brings a lot of experience with him and we cannot wait to have him working with the swimmers again. 


KATIE DODGE, Assistance Group Coach
Katie joined the staff after coaching Ballwin Summer League Club for a few years.  Katie has been a great addition to our staff and working with groups as assistant coach. 


CHRISTIE CLOUTMAN, Assistant Group Coach Christie has been coaching for a few years and helps out with the several groups including National. She also teaches ISR (Infant Swimming Resource) with Community Ed. Christie has three children, Taylor, Paige and Chase.


BRIAN KUPFERER, Assistant Group  Coach
Brian joined our staff after returning to St. Louis with his family and will be assisting with several groups. He was the Head Coach for Wichta Swim Club and has worked for many years coaching swimmers. Brian's experience is great to have working with our swimmers. 


XANDER GARCIA, Assistant Group Coach
Xander spent his age group career swimming with Rockwood Swim Club and swam at Franklin College. He has been on staff with Rockwood for several years helping with several of our groups. It is great to have Xander's experience on deck.


LUKE HARRIS, Assistant Group Coach
Luke has been coaching with Rockwood Swim Club for several years.  He previously swam for RSCA as an age group swimmer and is a Site Supervisor for SwimAmerica as well.  Luke has been a great addition to our coaching staff. Luke had been a swim instructor and site supervisor with SwimAmerica for several years before taking on some coaching responsibilities.

Liz joined the staff in the Spring of 2016 after coaching with the YMCA. She as two daughters that swim for the club. We look forward to having Liz work with our swimmers.

Beth began working for RSCA in 2009 and is now in the Parkway-Rockwood Community Ed office. She still works with the club on a day to day basis. Beth is married to Ernie and they have two children, Taylor and Laura, who swam for RSCA.
