Adrian and Hazel Represent PAC in Des Moines!

On April 29th, PAC’s very own Hazel Derr and Adrian Clement traveled to Des Moines, Iowa for the 2021 TYR 18&U Spring Cup. The Spring Cup is one of the fastest meets in the nation and many swimmers were at the meet for a last chance to qualify for the Olympic Trials. At the end of the 4 day meet, our two swimmers had competed in 5 individual events, 2 time trials, 2 finals and broken 2 PAC records. PAC is so excited to have Hazel and Adrian competing at such a high level and is so proud of the amazing job they did representing their team and Oregon Swimming.

Adrian has been absolutely on FIRE this year. He dropped time in all events he swam including the 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Free, and 50 Free. Adrian had an absolutely spectacular performance in the 50FR with a time of 23.98. Not only did he drop a whopping .76s, but he also got his Summer Junior Nationals cut! Adrian was thrilled to achieve his Summer Juniors cut and his coaches are so proud and happy for him! We can’t wait for Adran to compete in Summer National Champs in August!

Hazel had an amazing meet and swam to two best times, a 1.95 drop in the 200 Back and 3.85 drop in the 200 Free. On the final day of the meet, Hazel competed in her best event, the 200 Back. She had an extremely fast swim in prelims and managed to swim from 23rd seed to 11th after prelims. By Finals, Hazel found herself moved up to the A Final. After an already fast prelims swim, it was hard to believe that Hazel could swim even faster in Finals. Determined to go faster, Hazel dug deep and went out over 2 seconds faster in the front half of the race. She finished 6th place overall with a time of 2:19.17, and scored some major points for PAC! She also broke the 15-16 and Open Girls PAC 200BK records. Hazel’s coaches were impressed with her spectacular performance, especially this early in the season.
