Matt Crawford Age Group Coach - Aptos

Matt Crawford is originally from the Sacramento area where he grew up swimming summer rec and participating in a variety of other sports. He swam 4 years at UC Davis, from 2003-2007, where he specialized in sprint freestyle and backstroke and trained alongside Olympians Haley Cope and Scott Weltz, as well as Aptos locals Danny Donnelly and Abby Cornell. While in college, Matt began coaching with the Davis Aquamonsters under the tutelage of his college coach, Peter Motekaitis and his wife Koren Motekaitis. Under their direction, the team morphed into a summer rec/USA hybrid that has produced multiple Junior National level swimmers.

Matt’s coaching philosophy is always put the athlete first. He tailors his style to the needs of each swimmer while providing a training program that can meet the needs of everyone in the pool. He believes in a base of sound technique and a robust aerobic capacity to provide a foundation for long term success. In his spare time, Matt enjoys the outdoors and spending time with his dogs. Matt is also the Head Coach of the men’s and women’s swimming teams at UC Santa Cruz.
