QSS Olympic Trials update

Andre Salles-Cunha
Hello Quicksilver Families,
Congratulations to defending Olympic champion (and QSS board member) Ryan Murphy on winning the Men’s 100 backstroke at the USA Olympic Trials today! Good luck in Tokyo!
Ryan’s dad has shared a bit more of Ryan’s upcoming trials schedule: “Assuming Ryan continues to advance... He will swim the 200M Back Semi-Final on Thursday 6/17 and the Final on Friday 6/18. He may also swim the 100M Fly for which the Semi-Final is Friday 6/18 and the Final on Saturday 6/19. Go Ryan!”
There are so many incredible races at this year’s Olympic trials please try to watch some of them this week, and let’s get inspired for our summer season! Local grads Ryan (Cal), Katie Ledecky & Simone Manuel (Stanford), and many other swimming greats, have more swims to come as they compete for those coveted Olympic team spots. Let’s go team USA!
What a start to the summer! We got a chance to watch our QSS teammates Kailyn Winter and Ella Mazurek swim the 50 free at the US Olympic Trials wave 1. They made a preview video that even had me fired up to race, and then backed it up with a few great swims of their own! That was exciting and great experience for them, and we get to congratulate them when we see them around the pool this summer!
We just got to see a QSS board member make his second Olympic team after he did a couple zoom calls with our team during Covid just a few months ago. That’s exciting too, and hopefully we’ll be able to congratulate Ryan in person this fall as we work to get an annual stop for QSS on his clinic tour.
With Wave 2 on now, and the Olympics (and most of our QSS summer season) yet to come, this is the time when all of swimming shines a bit brighter. It’s a great time to be a swimmer!
Let’s go have a great time, and go get some great times! Have a wonderful summer!
