Coaches and Directors
Head Coach Todd Spohn has led Santa Clara Diving since 2011. Todd and his talented staff have established Santa Clara Diving as one of the top clubs in the nation. Over the last few years, Santa Clara Diving has produced 3 age-group National Champions and numerous Junior National Finalists, as well as Regional and Zone gold medalists.
In 1986, Todd began his coaching career at his alma mater, Miami
University (Ohio). There, he guided both college and club diving
for over 2 decades. Todd was named Mid-American Conference Diving
Coach of the Year 11 times. Nine of his divers captured MAC Diver
of the Year honors, including 8 who swept the diving events, 2 of
whom also earned Miami Athlete of the Year accolades. In
total, Spohn’s divers captured 18 individual MAC titles. In
2016, Todd was inducted into the prestigious Miami University
Cradle of Coaches.
Spohn earned a Bachelors degree in Communications in 1986, and a Masters degree in Coaching Science in 1993, both from Miami. During his own stellar diving career at Miami, Spohn was a 6-time MAC finalist, and 3-time NCAA Zone Championship qualifier. Spohn competed and medaled internationally at the Pan Pacific Masters Diving Championship. He has also performed as a professional high diver.
Coach Megan was born and raised in the Bay Area, where she competed in competitive gymnastics for twelve years. During her freshman year of high school, Megan transitioned into the sport of diving by joining the Stanford Diving Club.
Megan went on to compete for the San Jose State University Swimming and Diving team. Megan graduated from SJSU with a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, emphasizing Exercise and Fitness. Coach Megan is very excited to be coaching for SCD, and looks forward to working with everyone!
Born in Louisville KY, Ryan started gymnastics in 1995, competing up to Level 5 before transitioning to diving full time in 1998 with Louisville Area Diving. As a junior diver, Ryan qualified to USA Diving Junior Nationals as well as placing second at the Kentucky high school State Championships.
Ryan attended college at Northwestern University and earned a degree in Communication Studies and Business, graduating in 2008. While at NU, he set and still holds the Northwestern school record on 1m of 332.80. Ryan was also twice named Big Ten Conference Diver of the Week.
Ryan served as assistant coach for North Shore Diving Club under Northwestern University head coaches Tommy Michael and Alik Sarkisian where he coached, and ran all competitions held at the university. In addition, Ryan was head coach for both Louisville Boat Club Country Club and for Indian Hill Country Club Winnetka, IL
Coach Collin dove for Santa Clara Diving Club from 2007 to 2012. He went on to become a nationally ranked diver for the University of Southern California and UC Berkeley. At UC Berkeley, Collin was awarded the Most Outstanding Diver Award in 2013. At USC, he earned the Most Outstanding Diver in 2015 and 2016. Collin is a NCAA All-American Athlete, two-time PAC 12 Champion (Team and 10 Meter), and two-time PAC 12 Diver of the Meet. Collin served SCD as Assistant Coach for JO during the 2017-2018 season. Collin is an excellent coach, and always approaches coaching with a positive attitude and a smile.
Collin also works as a freelance Photographer, Photo Retoucher, and Graphic Designer in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2020, Collin was honored with the Most Outstanding Graduate Student in Photography from SFAI. He has worked with companies both large and small on creating meaningful imagery.
