Jerry Johnston Head Coach (Senior)

Was one of the original swimmers on Lake Washington Swim Club, which is now Chinook, and was their first male swimmer to qualify for Sr. Nationals. Graduated from Newport High School. Went to the University of Washington on a full ride scholarship and was a 3 year All-American as well as team captain. Qualified for Olympic Trials in 1972 and 1976 and placed 5th at Sr. Nationals in the 400 IM in 1972. Began coaching in 1977 at Issaquah Swim Team and had several Jr. and Sr. National qualifiers including a Jr. National Champion. Coached the high school team at Issaquah High School as well. Moved to Colorado to become a Real Estate Appraiser in 1991 and returned to full time coaching at Taos New Mexico in 2008. Moved to Moses Lake, Wa. in 2010 and coached the Manta Rays for 4 years and was Inland Empire coach of the year in 2011. Moved to Poulsbo, Wa. in 2014 and was PNS Sr. coach of the year in 2018. Coached 2 swimmers to Sr. Nationals, 5 swimmers to Jr. Nationals and 7 to Futures. Coached numerous swimmers to Age Group and Sr. Zones over the years at Taos, Moses Lake and Poulsbo. This summer, coached 1 swimmer to Olympic Trials qualification at Sr. Nationals. 

 
Justin Fleming Lead Coach (Bellevue Red, White, Junior)

Justin is a lifelong swimmer and grew up in the Eastside Seattle suburbs.  In 2004 Justin was selected to the Paralympic team and represented the United States in Athens, Greece.  For the next three years Justin was a member of the US Paralympic National Team where he had numerous opportunities to compete around the world.  In 2009 Justin began coaching under his long time mentor Kiko Van Zandt, gaining his USS coaching card.  

Mike Smith Lead Coach (Renton Junior)

After Swimming on Chinook for 8 years, at Kentridge High School for 4 years, and Fairwood Summer League for 9, Coach Mike turned his focus to coaching in the summer of 2016. Having swam for Chinook himself, he can relate to his swimmers and better prepare them for the next level along with other programs. At Kentridge, Mike was the junior and senior captain and lead his team with enthusiasm, along with competing at state all four years. Mike currently attends Bellevue College with hopes to transfer to the University of Washington. He’s passionate about helping all of his swimmers get better each day and reach for success. Mike is not only a coach, but strives to be a role model and friend to everyone.
