Alex Nowjack Head Coach

Head Coach:  Alex Nowjack - Alex began coaching in Utah several years ago, where he was the assistant coach at Timpanogos High School.  A year later he was the assistant coach at Provo High School.   Shortly after graduating college, he was a volunteer assistant at the Bainbridge Island Aquatic Club.  Alex was the Head Age Group Coach with the University Place Aquatic Club (UPAC) for two years, during which University Place placed Top 8 in PNS Championships and Age Group Regionals.  While coaching with UPAC, he was also the assistant coach at the University of Puget Sound.  Alex has qualified swimmers for PNS Championships, Age Group Regionals, and Western Zones.  Alex has a deep passion for working with kids of all ages to help them reach their fullest potential.  His coaching philosophy focuses on always striving to be better, with particular attention to technical proficiency, hard work, and integrity.

Wendy Neely Head Age Group Coach

Head Age Group Coach: Wendy Neely - Wendy has been coaching competitive swimming for over 20 years and has been the head swim coach and developer of the largest Masters Swim Team in the State of WA, Blue Wave Aquatics. She won PNA Coach of the Year in 2017 and received the United States Swimming Kerri O’Brien “Visionary” Award in 2010. Recently, Wendy has put her coaching skills to a test by earning 200HR KRI Kundalini Yoga and Meditation Certification specializing in fear, anger, anxiety and addictive behaviors. This training has expanded into a lifestyle coaching called Soul Swimming working from the inside out. Previously, Wendy has been the head coach for the Thomas Jefferson High School Girls and Boys swim teams, winning a State Championship with the boys’ team and Academic State Championship for both boys and girls teams multiple years.  She is beginning her 6th year with FAST.  Last season as head coach, she led 25 swimmers to PNS Championships, 5 swimmers to Regional time cuts, and 5 swimmers to Wester Zone time cuts.  Her constant attention to detail, focus on training effectively and racing with passion led to an outstanding finish to both our short course and long course championship seasons. 

Maya Lovre Assistant Coach

Assistant Coach:  Maya Lovre -  Maya is very excited to join the awesome staff at FAST! She started out on a summer swim league when she was 11 years-old and finally joined Portland Aquatic Club (PAC) when she was 13. She swam with PAC until she graduated from US Grant Highschool in Portland, Oregon where she also swam varsity for 4 years. She currently attends Pacific Lutheran University where she swims for the school travel team, specializing in backstroke, and is pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and a Minor in Sport Psychology. She has 4 years of experience teaching swim lessons and is very excited to apply that knowledge and what she has learned in college about movement and coaching to help the FAST swimmers succeed. Learning new swimming skills, commitment to practice, and putting in hard work to improve are her top three goals for her swimmers.

Matt Sellman Owner/President

Owner:  Matt Sellman - Matt has been a Collegiate Head Coach and Aquatics Director for over 20 years. The last 11 years he has been the Head Coach for Pacific Lutheran University as well as Director of Aquatics. Matt is a graduate of PLU and earned his Masters in Education from University of Findlay. Matt is a Level 4 American Swim Coach (American Swimming Coaches Association).  A 4 x ASCA Award of Excellence in Coaching (2009, 2010, 2018, 2019) and 10 x Conference Coach of the Year (’03, ’06, ’08, ’09, ’10, 1st NWC coach to earn 4 in a row: ’13, ’14, ’15, ’16) are among many of his accomplishments. He is the proud parent of three children; two of that participate on the swim team.
