Scholarship Program Guidelines
The Poseidon Aquatic Club will award 1 to 2 scholarships in the amount of [1]$500 each during the 2015-2016 academic year. This effort is a meaningful expression of the Club’s confidence in, and respect for, education and training.
The Poseidon Aquatic Club Scholarship will assist with the post-high school educational expenses of high school seniors on the Poseidon Aquatic Club in good standing with the Club and USA Swim Association. The scholarships will recognize two high school seniors who exemplify the qualities of integrity, commitment to others, community involvement and has demonstrated true dedication while participating on the swim club.
The Club’s goal is to provide assistance to worthy students in furthering their education and training with resources made available through the Poseidon Aquatic Club’s Executive Board. Poseidon board members consider this scholarship program to be an investment in the athlete’s future and the Club.
The sum of $1,000 has been allocated from the 2016 budget to carry on the program for the 2015-2016 academic year. The scholarship will be awarded locally to a current swimmer that has been a member of the Poseidon Aquatic Club for the last two consecutive years.
The one-time scholarship fund of *$500 is intended to assist a high school club swimmer with the cost of tuition, fees and books only. No funds can be used for housing or any other incurred expenses.
The scholarship funds will be paid directly to the school on behalf of the recipient with the instructions that 1/2 is to be credited to the fall semester and 1/2 to the spring semester. However, books must be purchased from the learning institution’s campus bookstore and directly billed through the institution’s financial office.
Funds cannot be used for summer courses and must be used during the regular 2015-2016 school year. The recipient is responsible for having the schools notify the Poseidon Aquatic Club Treasurer with written verification of full-time enrollment before any scholarship funds will be paid. The Poseidon Aquatic Club Treasurer must be contacted by the school, in writing, before October 31, 2016. If this deadline is not met, the scholarship will be forfeited. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS.
There shall be no restriction on any applicant by reason of race, age, creed, color, sex or national origin. The only limitations are the following:
1) Applicants must be current Poseidon Aquatic Club swimmer in good standing with the club.
2) Scholarships are to be utilized at an accredited college or technical institutions of higher learning.
3) Students must be enrolled as full-time students.
Completed applications shall be submitted to the Poseidon Aquatic Club Board by the May 1, deadline. Applicants must be eligible for admission to the school indicated on the application. The award will only be paid for attendance to certified schools or technical institutions.
Applications received on or before May 1, 2016 are to be reviewed by a Scholarship Selection Committee consisting of two Poseidon Aquatic Club Board members and one Regional swim parent. To protect the integrity of the award selection process, applicant’s relatives are prohibited from participate in the scholarship selection. The selected board members and designated parent will review, evaluate and select the winner(s) and one alternate to receive the scholarships. The names of the scholarship winners will be announced at the annual Poseidon Aquatic Club banquet in May.
All Committee decisions are final and non-appealable.
If for any reason, a recipient relinquishes a scholarship, that scholarship will be granted to the alternate selected.

PAC Scholarship
Please read the following very carefully. Failure to comply with the application directions could result in disqualification.
Purpose:
The PAC scholarship is to a deserving Poseidon Aquatic Club graduating high school swimmer seeking a higher education in an accredited college or technical school.
Amount
The Poseidon Aquatic Club awards a maximum of two swimming scholarships up to $500 per high school graduating Poseidon swimmer wishing to pursue a higher education during the 2015-2016 academic year. The student must be enrolled full-time at a certified college of higher learning institution. This is a non-renewable scholarship.
Criteria: The criteria for scholarship consideration will be as follows:
There shall be no restriction on any applicant by reason of race, age, creed, color, sex or national origin. The only limitations are the following:
Applicants must be active swimmer of the Poseidon Aquatic Club and a USA member.
Scholarships are to be utilized at institutions of higher learning.
Swimmer must be enrolled as a full-time college student during the 2015-2016 school year (excluding summer session).
Scholarship is open only to following:
• Current high school senior graduating in 2016
• Member of the Poseidon Aquatic Club for the last two consecutive years.
• USA swim team member in good standing
• Participated in at least X short and X long course USA sanctioned swim events with the Poseidon Aquatic Club team.
• Lewis or Thurston County resident
• Have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
• Students planning to pursue full-time certified college, trade or vocational school
• Demonstrate evidence of:
• Community Leadership: Applicant will have demonstrated leadership by making significant contributions to his/her community and swim team.
• Academic Leadership: Applicant will have demonstrated strong critical thinking skills, a commitment to learning, and academic achievement.
• Need: Economic need will be considered in all cases.
How to Apply
Completed applications and supporting documentation must be postmarked or returned to the Poseidon Aquatic Club head coach by May 1, 2016 (must be postmarked by this date). Applications are available through the Poseidon Aquatic coach or the internet at www.poseidonswimclub.org.
NOTE: Do not send completed applications to the Aquatics Center!
Scholarship process will consist of: Written application, essay, and additional requested documentation. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Application Process:
1. Applicant packet must include the following items:
a. Application form
b. Essays
c. References
2. Award decisions and amounts will be made by the Scholarship Selection Committee. The Scholarship Selection Committee is comprised of members including, Poseidon Board members.
3. In the event of a tied score, applicants will participate in an in-person interview.
Selection Criteria:

Distribution of Monies
The scholarship funds will be paid directly to the school on behalf of the recipient. The total scholarship award will be divided as follows: 1/2 credited to the fall semester and 1/2 credited to the spring semester. Funds cannot be used for summer courses and must be used during the 2015-2016 academic year.
Scholarship funds will be awarded to the student upon evidence of registration in an accredited post-secondary institution or flight school. The recipient must instruct the school he/she is attending to notify the Poseidon Aquatic Club with written notification of full-time enrollment status before any scholarships will be paid. The Poseidon Aquatic Club must be contacted by the school in writing on official school letterhead before October 31, 2016 .
Deadlines
Application Deadline: The deadline for all application submissions to the Poseidon Aquatic Club is May 1, 2016 . Applications postmarked or received after this date will not be considered.
School Verification Deadline: The Poseidon Aquatic Club must be contacted by the school with written enrollment verification before October 31, 2016 , or scholarship checks will not be issued until such notice has been received.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Poseidon Aquatic Club scholarship funds are intended to assist students with the cost of tuition, books and fees. No funds can be used for housing or any other incurred expenses. Funds must be used during the regular school year and cannot be used for summer courses. Books must be purchased from a learning institution campus bookstore and directly billed through that institution’s financial office. If tuition is paid in full by any other scholarship, grant or other financial aid the Poseidon Aquatic Club scholarship cannot be used to reduce the other funding.
